I love waking up to emails like this. 😎 You never know the people you may touch when you creatively play some random songs together and generate some good vibes. Also, I truly love deejaying weddings. As long as the couple has good taste in music. Lol.

Last night, I played one of my favorite sets of my ENTIRE life. All vinyl. All classics. The lore and legend of @danteshifi actually doesn’t even do it justice. It is truly a deejay’s paradise. Shout out to @richmedina + @rudeboysven for creating something incredible. I don’t even wanna spoil what I played (although I will say I played an acapella beatbox version of “Dancing Queen” that crushed) but swipe thru for the vibes. I totally wanna do more all-vinyl sets ASAP. Holla at me. 😎 (Fun fact: I did this with a sprained left rotator cuff - shout out to my physical therapist for keeping me in the game so I could do this gig.)

Everyone is talking about Drake because of “Iceman.” So I thought it would be fun to do some Drizzy remixes. Here is one that I’ve done live in my deejay sets recently, and I’m sharing it here as well. “Headlines” over Usher’s “Throwback.” Crazy sample of Dionne Warwick. Produced by the god @justblaze (with a nod to the goat Dilla as well.) Enjoy! Deejays - grab it from my Bandcamp. (Link in bio.)

My son loved the new MJ movie, so we went thru the entire Jacksons catalog the other night. Which, of course, led me to show him all the classic samples. And now I’m showing you. 😎 Jackson 5 “I Want You Back” + Kris Kross “Jump.” (Jermaine Dupri was a genius for this.) More sample clips to come… 🔥

Happy Mother’s Day to the best step-mom (and cat mom!) on the planet. The bond you and Myles share goes beyond anything I could ever dream of / pray for. Love you forever. Fight on? 😂

One reason I’ve been sharing more lessons from deejaying lately is because I think the skills behind it apply way beyond music. (And the feedback I received from the creative community on last week’s Substack proves this!) The skill is never just playing songs. It’s understanding context. Sequencing ideas. That’s curation. And honestly, I think curation is becoming one of the most valuable creative skills right now. Everyone has access to the same tools. The same AI. The same ability to generate endless content. The difference moving forward won’t be who can make the most. It’ll be who has taste. Judgment. Restraint. A real point of view. That’s what I’ve spent 20+ years learning through music, rooms, crowds, brands, and culture. And I think those lessons apply to almost every kind of creative work now. If you want to learn more about this, check out my CREATIVE EXERCISE newsletter. (Link in bio.)

“The enemy of my enemy is my friend.” The Sixers took down my Celtics, so we are DEFINITELY rooting for the Knicks this round. Plus, honestly, springtime in NYC is just better all around when the Knicks are winning. Also: I need to get Myles a modeling agent ASAP. 🥰

Exactly 5 years ago - she said YES to my (expertly planned) marriage proposal and totally changed my life. (And Myles’ life as well!) How lucky are we?!? 🥰 This has been the fastest 5 years of my life, btw. Love you forever @carolynbatyske !

En route to DC tonight to deejay an all-vinyl set for @basilhayden bourbon. 🥃 This is going to be super fun. All 45’s. I thought you’d like to see how I (very casually lol) plan out my crates. Lemme know your faves… 🔥

Watching my son’s music journey is wayyyyy more exciting than watching my own. Seeing Myles learn / grow / thrive playing an instrument makes me so happy and proud. (And he did this concert with a horrible stomach bug - his version of the infamous MJ “flu game” against the Jazz lol.) Shout out to the amazing @brooklynmusicschool ! 🎸
