Now that I’ve stopped collecting shells, I’ve begun photographing them, paying attention to the textures, the patterns, the colors (which fade quickly when shells are collected anyway). I'm interested to see how they find their way into my artwork. Link to essay in bio.

As I keep walking in the woods, and as I keep taking photograph after photograph of the plants I’ve come to know more intimately, grateful that they persist year after year, I’m also moving towards trying to capture a deeper and more extended relationship with these plants in my artwork. I've finished installing "To Know This Place" at @411gallery in Columbus, IN. It opens tomorrow! This is the culmination of 7 years of studio work, and it celebrates my relationship with the woods near my home. The show will be up from now until May 29th. (I'm excited because this is the first time these pieces will be for sale. Message me with questions about that.)
There will be a reception on Thurs May 7 from 5-7pm. The reception will be a part of the Arts Alley event, so there will be music, food and drink in the alley right outside the gallery.
I will also be in the gallery Friday May 1st from 3-6pm and Saturday May 16th from 10am-2pm.
The gallery has open hours:
Thursday & Friday 12:00–6:00 pm
Saturdays 10:00 am–2:00 pm

'I combine my love of paper and stitching to express my fascination with forests and the difficult subjects of illness and grief. I machine quilt into paper, then add hand embroidery, beading and sculptural elements to create artworks that explore the often-unseen world around us. I spend as much time as my body and chronic illness will allow in the woods around my Brown County home, photographing the forest, especially the mushrooms, mosses and lichens, native plants and insects that make themselves known to us when we take the time to stop and look. These walks and photos are the basis of the artwork I create, whether I am hand embroidering directly into the photographs or using them to create patterns, designs, or ideas for stitched paper artwork.' - Michele Pollock
