If you know me you know this is all I’ve wanted for four years.
Yes. I am the girl who has talked about making a genre-bending, gender-swapped, Mexican-American adaptation of Hamlet for four years. Yes, four years. Thank you to those who’ve put up with this nerdy girl 🤓
Finally this year we did it. We shot a feature film.
It is one of the best things that has ever happened to me.
For fifteen days we filmed our little hearts out. And for fifteen days we were almost perfect, messy, but still almost perfect.
There are an endless number of people to thank:
Our family, friends, our community—the people who constantly stand by us 💜
Our perfect cast and crew.
This last month I met and worked with amazing people, talented people, creative, kind, giving, loving people, people I cannot imagine living my life without now.
From the deepest, most bottom part of my heart thank you thank you thank you ❤️
I have learned so much from this process, this script, this moment in life, but the best thing of all is that I’ve learned to dream absolutely ridiculous dreams because you never know what may come ✨

If you had told nine-year-old me that I’d one day be living in New York City, making movies with the love of my life and our best friends, while making my loved ones proud, I don’t think I would have believed it. That little girl dreamed big, but this life feels even bigger than I ever imagined.

Reflexiones sobre dirigir un largometraje un año después del rodaje:
Hace un año, habría estado volviendo de rodar Los Enfermos.
Todo el mundo habla de lo difícil que es rodar un largometraje independiente. Pero nadie habla de lo mucho más difícil que es después.
Es una experiencia increíble. La tensión, cumplir con el horario sin pasarse del presupuesto, terminar el trabajo… sí, todo eso es difícil.
Pero también hay risas en los pasillos, hay juego y descubrimiento, hay amor, hay silencio durante una toma y luego la euforia colectiva de saber que tienen la toma. En ese momento lo sientes todo.
Y luego se acaba.
Y entras en postproducción.
Y durante un rato estás sola editando, sola. Y aunque me encanta el trabajo (me pierdo en la edición temporal y espacial)…
No se compara con ensuciarte las manos, la arena del desierto en el pelo, despertar a las 4 de la mañana para la llamada, tomar un café con el equipo de maquillaje, ver el pelo, el maquillaje y el vestuario juntos, entrar al set por primera vez, llorar y luego reír a carcajadas con tu compañero de escena, la última foto en el set, la agridulce sensación de estar completamente vivo.
Estoy totalmente asombrada con cada persona que estuvo allí.
También estoy muy agradecido con quienes me han acompañado en la edición, porque si no, hubiera perdido la cabeza.
Durante quince días estuvimos absolutamente perfectos.
Hemos estado trabajando duro y conversando con otros miembros del equipo de postproducción, y estamos muy emocionados por lo que viene.
Pero febrero siempre tendrá un lugar especial en mi corazón. Gracias a febrero sueño y sé lo que es posible.
