What does a rap collaboration between a postminimalist composer and an intricate lyricist sound like? Rapper Valee (Valee Taylor) and composer MVW (Michael Vincent Waller) have been collaborating since 2021. Their most recent project, “Where Were We” (MVW Productions/Riveting Music, 2025) demonstrates the unique pairing, allowing for the genres to complement each other.

@thewiremagazine weighs in on MVW & Gangsta Boo. Honored to read this article so eloquently written. The WIRE magazine has always been a mainstay for the avant-garde and the outer rims of music constellations. The three contemporary classical albums I released were covered by them, but this is their first coverage of the hip-hop work under the moniker MVW. Gangsta Boo / Lola was one of my first collaborations in hip-hop, as I was experimenting across genres during the pandemic. This feels like a full circle moment in my musical journey to explore different worlds 🌎 ⭕️ 🔮
Lola was such a radiant spirit - may she rest in peace with uplifting energy. "A fitting sign-off, for a beloved idiosyncratic figure." 🕊️ 🕊️
