I signed up for a continuing education course at RISD just to shake things up and mix it up a little. The class is called “Designing For Music: The Art of the Gig Poster”. Kind of right on the nose for me, right??? Loving it so far! Small class. Great professor. Week 1 assignment was to design a poster using text only. We picked artist names randomly out of a hat. Other five were: Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, Otis Redding, Willie Nelson and The Beach Boys. Somehow, I drew Sonic Youth.
I decided to go fully analog and used no computer, software, AI or robots to create this. This was an actual date they played in 1984 after the release of the Kill Yr. Idols EP. I would’ve made many different choices/edits/colors if it was digital, but once it was glued down, it was a done deal.
The final result is just a “meh” for me, but the process was a ton of fun! Can’t wait to see what my classmates came up with and can’t wait to dive into more of it. Next assignment is design using only two colors. Stay tuned… #risd #sonicyouth #killyridols #gigposter #gigposters

While on an unrelated assignment, I had to pull the car around and take a longer look at the @grotonhillmusic Center. Nestled in the heart of rural New England farmland and apple orchards, this spectacular building was unknown to me before this recent happy accident.
I didn’t exactly have the proper gear with me. It wasn’t exactly the right time of day to capture this building. And technically, I probably wasn’t exactly authorized to be roaming around the grounds (sorry). But the compelling architecture and the fact it was a MUSIC 🎶🎼🎵 center, obliged me make an unscheduled pit stop and grab a few handheld shots.
I’m so glad I did! From what I can see online, the interior is equally inspiring. What a project! Phenomenal work from the folks at @ejparchitects Thank you for the best part of my day! An artistic (and acoustic) treasure that I plan to experience a concert performance at sometime very soon.
