Dans le genre « Master » nous avons en effet Michael Ackermann. Ce photographe né à Tel-Aviv en 1967, a grandi à New York après l’exil familial. Autodidacte, il appartient à cette génération de photographes qui ont déplacé le documentaire vers quelque chose de beaucoup plus intérieur, de presque « fiévreux ».
Michael Ackermann est un artiste qui fait un peu partie de ma mythologie personnelle. Je me souviens avoir découvert ses images en consultant le livre « End time City » (réédité récemment chez @atelier_exb )et j’avais été sidéré par la puissance brute de son récit, par la force avec laquelle il est capable d’embrasser sans concessions son sujet. Le moindre centimètre carré de ses images vous embarque : c’est une aspiration. Avec lui on est immédiatement au cœur du propos : son grain énorme, sont flou « sincère » (il me semble être beaucoup moins une posture esthétique que d’autres travaux), et la noirceur dont il s’empare à bras-le-corps sans aucun mouvement de recul. Il y a des points de correspondance avec @antoinedagata . C’est un photographe qui s’intéresse beaucoup à l’humain, Il semble capable de lire le cœur des êtres dans leurs yeux en faisant tomber tous les filtres. Pourtant même si j’adore ces portraits, je crois préférer ses paysages ou ses photos de lieux, qui sont tout aussi capables de raconter le fond des âmes, mais en montrant un simple bout de leur table. Un ami très cher m’a offert quelques semaines plus tard son livre « fictions ». Ce sera sans doute un de mes premiers livre photo. Je le garde précieusement aujourd’hui, en souvenir de cette amitié et comme le marqueur de ce qui fut sans doute parmi mes premières émotions photographiques.
