𝐒𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐦é 𝟖 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐝: a drag-ritual for political witnessing.
Born from my drag persona workshop and sparked by my self-designed Salomé-inspired tarot cards as a material prompt where we collectively rehearsed new lineages for Salomé, unlearning the Orientalist script and building another narrative with our bodies.
I translate Wilde’s Salomé against the grain: not fantasy, but a queer subject entangled in power, desire, and erasure.
When does violence become “beautiful” enough to be consumed? When does it move us? When does it vanish behind culture’s curtain?
With deep love to everyone who held this work with me, collaborators, dramaturgical eyes, tech hands, camera bodies and the friends who showed up, fed me, listened and stayed.

Thrilled to have collaborated on 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐇𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐉𝐚𝐧𝐮𝐬, which had its world premiere at the 35th Singapore International Film Festival 2024.
𝐒𝐲𝐧𝐨𝐩𝐬𝐢𝐬: A summer vacation listening to the opera of love, Dido & Aeneas, drifting into daydream and nightmare. Adriaan is ninety years old and in his golden hour. The inevitable will come to pass, he will have to leave his beloved House of Janus behind. This meditation on past and future evokes the threshold of two-faced Etruscan god Janus. The face of life and the face of death. The film opens towards different existences, non-human and human, living frailties and non-living eternities.

I am Michael(a), a Syrian artist who grew up in Egypt and lives in Berlin. I work with performance, installation, and conceptual art.
My research explores how religious and cultural narratives choreograph the body and structure time, treating both as mediums. My 301 project blends literature, ritual and drag, where myth, memory, and satire collide onstage in a dreamlike tableau.

This year I worked with duration and return, letting the body mark time differently, across a lunar cycle, in public space and in the studio. Now the project lives as a book: a collected record of the images, notes, and traces that performance usually leaves behind
