“It started when I was 9 or 10.” Adele Myers would sneak out of her childhood bedroom and crawl out onto the rooftop to look up at the stars. “I wasn’t supposed to, but I did.” Back then, if you had asked her what the future looked like, she would have pointed at those stars. “They seemed magical to me then.”Â
Â
For audiences lucky enough to grab a seat to see the world premiere of “a world gone FABULOUS” on April 24th and 25th at Miami Theater Center, it may feel like they’re joining Adele on her roof all those years ago, embracing the power of collective dreaming (only with much cooler lighting and permission from their parents). And just like those stars above her childhood home: “It’s going to touch you,” Adele says. After a slight pause, she adds: “Might even pinch you a little bit.”

How do we begin thinking about a better future?
Project Dramaturg, Alejandro Rodriguez, led Adele Myers and Dancers: a world gone FABULOUS collaborators through a visualization to prepare their imaginations to wonder forward. After the meditation they shared their raw ideas and imagery about the future with project Creative Technologist, Tara Burns. Inspired by their collective imaginings, Burns designed a Virtual Reality (VR) environment for them to navigate physically.
Their VR and embodied research continued during a Dance and Technology Lab hosted by NCC Akron informing choreographic seeds for the first phase of development.
