Finished an exuberant day of visiting multiple partner sites with @acanarytorsi for the project #ExorcismLiberation by making sofrito with these gorgeous vegetables from @nuestrasraices1992 La Finca. True abundance…of food, of community, of connection, of inspiration, of imagining new worlds together. And of gratitude. There are simply so many people, standing right next to you, working to nourish a more just and abundant world. So grateful to learn of their company.

Registry of Delight: The Fallow Field
At @apearts we talk often about the value of the fallow times. Like a farm field left unplanted for a season so that the soil might rest and replenish itself, spaces (and artists) also benefit from times of inactivity, times free from production. Such times can be vital in nourishing the imagination. So on this Tuesday of Making Ground, we scheduled in a ‘fallow day’. It just so happened to be a snow day here as well…further encouragement from nature to take it slow and enjoy the quieter workings of the world.

Registry of Delight: Movies With Mom
As artists, we often spend time reflecting on those who have influenced our MAKING of art. But rarely do I hear tell of those in our life who have helped us know art to be something to which we can open our hearts, by which we can be profoundly shaped, and about which we can be giddily excited. But it is these people who keep art alive and meaningful in our communities more than all us effort if artists.
In my life this person is my mom, hands down. From toddler trips to the Guthrie, to countless visits to the Nelson Atkins Museum in KCMO, to decades of pilgrimage to the #nyff, my mom has given me permission throughout my life to be moved, delighted, inspired, thrilled by these acts of imagination and creativity. And she’s done so by showing herself to be just so moved. In this age of cynicism, fear, and self-protection, allowing yourself to be vulnerable and open to being moved feels like a radical act. And a truly delightful one.
I guess this is what Jack Gilbert meant.
