Drink my blood, eat my body, 2026
Shown @miartmilano last weekend, thank you so much for including my work on your beautiful booth @whatiftheworld_gallery
Mia Chaplin, Diomedes Devoured by His Horses (after Gustave Moreau), 2026, Acrylic on archival paper, 36,7 x 42,3 cm, 44,9 x 50,3 cm (framed)
Mia Chaplin confronts the raw intensity of myth through expressive, gestural painting, emphasising the tension between violence and vulnerability and unraveling traditional notions of phallic heroism. In Diomedes Devoured by His Horses (after Gustave Moreau) (2026), textured surfaces and fluid
brushwork reimagine the myth of King Diomedes, whose man-eating horses embody uncontrollable force and destruction. Currently on view in Bring on the Dancing Horses.

WHATIFTHEWORLD is delighted to return to Armory’s ‘Focus’ section, curated by Jessica Bell Brown, with a solo presentation of new works by Mia Chaplin.
Mia Chaplin’s paintings inhabit a space where the sensual and the unsettling meet. Working with thick, tactile layers of oil paint, she transforms the canvas into a living surface - one that evokes intimacy, vulnerability, and the uneasy entanglements of care and conflict.

"Mia Chaplin’s work conveys a vivid, almost organic materiality. Her paintings and sculptures reflect an intimate relationship with flesh, emotion, and the body’s memory. She shares her creative process with rare honesty, expressing her sensitivity to the world and to the narrative threads drawn from art history. A candid conversation, imbued with the same humanity that radiates from her work."
