Today is Sweet Pickles’ 16th anniversary. Instead of putting together our annual celebration and sale, I’m writing the post I was always hoping I would never have to.
Pickles passed away at home on Saturday, surrounded by her family and so much love. Like everything she did in her life, she did it on her own terms. 🌈💔
Many of you know how special she was. We found Pickles as a kitten on the side of I-5 and she changed everything from that moment on. She ruled our house and our hearts completely. I know everyone says their pet is one of a kind, but she truly was. She was magical.
She loved everyone in our home and welcomed Olive, Farley, Ruby and Ramona (okay… Ramona took a little time). She was the smartest, most loyal, sweetest and yes, spiciest (just ask any vet) cat in the world. She quite literally changed the course of my life. When we found her, I was working in commercial real estate, and now my entire life and business exist because of her.
Pickles was my first cat and she was my world. I feel pretty lost and broken right now, so I’ll be taking a small break from social media.
We’ll still be shipping orders as usual (maybe just a bit slower this week). And when we’re ready, we will celebrate her life the way she deserves.
Thank you to everyone who loved her. I truly believe she knew how deeply she was loved.

After my first garden book commission, I was lucky enough to get to start work on a second over the fall and I’m happy to now be able to share a few images from it. Way outside my normal studio and lifestyle work, but I’m stoked on it. I feel very fortunate to be shooting here - at a beautiful property just off Lake Washington in Seattle - over the next three seasons. Thanks to @carolynsei and @benmollica for cover design, art direction and photo editing assistance, and to @ninaleah for kicking off the whole gardens adventure 🌼 Hit me up if you've got a cool outdoor space you want to celebrate 🎉
