So honored to be back at LAAAWPPI to lead a session on “Conquering the Fear of Asking for Money.” We had an incredible deep dive into fundraising, executive presence, political consulting, and the art of relationship building.
This visit was bittersweet as we remember the late Joy Atkinson, a LAAAWPPI founder and ED. I’m deeply grateful for Joy’s 25 years of legendary leadership and for her trust in hiring MGA in 2024 to oversee board development and fundraising strategy. Her impact on the Black political community in LA is immeasurable. 🕊️
I am fully behind the continued leadership of Traci Bivens and Patrice Marshall MacKenzie and so proud to support this community of Black women professionals in public policy.
Being back at USC’s Leavey Library was a total full-circle moment. As an alumna who spent many nights studying in these exact seats, seeing the LAAAWPPI cohorts here makes me incredibly proud. ✌️

It was so exciting to attend the CADEM convention! It was a highlight to meet statewide candidates Tom Steyer, running for Governor, and Josh Fryday, running for Lieutenant Governor. It was also great running into my friend Mike Bonin, who continues to work in the progressive movement after leaving office as an LA City Councilmember.
As a delegate to CADEM, I was disappointed that we didn’t reach endorsements for our statewide constitutional seats. As we head toward the June primary, I’m hopeful candidates continue to organize and prioritize viability. We can’t risk having two Republicans on the ballot because we failed to align! 🗳️

Grateful for the time to center black power in the environmental movement and support black businesses across Detroit. It was a beautiful experience attending the YBCL Dream Lab in July and being in a community of young Black leaders dreaming and creating a future where all our communities thrive in the new green economy!
I’m also excited to share that Deja Thomas and I are launching a food sovereignty project in LA! I was awarded a Young Black Climate Leadership grant, and YBCL is one of our seed funders.
So glad I got to connect with my colleague Justine Johnson and spend time with living ancestor Blair Anderson of the Black Panther Party. I even got to see my lifelong friend Eric, we’ve stayed connected since our Madewell days in LA, and of course, we had to wear our Beyoncé shirts. 🐝
