When I was little, I was obsessed with making a “ride” in my room, something that would be pleasing for every sense.
I had one CD, from Collective Soul, through BMG music service. I wrote an intro script about the “ride” and dubbed every other word to different cassette tapes, followed by the song “December”. I put the tapes in three different old tape recorders in the corners of the room, so the words would come from all around you. After the intro, the song would play, and since the tapes were all a little out of sync, it sounded like a choir, wide from everyone imperfectly singing together.
I asked my parents and sister to sit on the bed. I had fans aimed at them, and the fans and tape recorders were all plugged into a button to switch a Christmas tree on controlling the power. They’d press that button and the show would start.
I found one of the old tapes I thought was lost forever at Christmas.
Some of my best memories are working on those types of inventions in my room to make my family feel awe and calm and happy. I’m still primarily obsessed with the same thing, I think I probably always will be. Technology is good at making things fast and predictable and bigger. I am much happier and more interested in using it to help create these other feelings.
FOMO Killer VII: Fire Dance With Me, a Tribute to David Lynch.
This black, white, and red masquerade ball was our most creatively ambitious and creatively successful FOMO Killer to date. And, it was so joyful to produce over the course of a month. So many friends collaborated and contributed to bring my big vision to life. There is a lot of storytelling to this one, which I’ll be sharing right here in the coming weeks.
A few big big big thank yous to kick us off:
