TIRANA ART WEEKEND, Second Edition 2025
Where Do Thoughts Go? / Ku Enden Mendimet?
Invited by @shkodra_arthouse to be their representative artist🌟 Such an honour and immensely grateful - thank you for having me🧡
// The series follows the journey of thoughts as they move from mind to wall: from private reflection to a visible mark. Documenting graffiti across Prishtina, I observe spaces where voices take form - revealing the culture behind the society.
Through photo transfer onto wood, I preserve the paradox of a public diary, one that blurs the lines between confession and suppression. Some words are left to fade, others altered or covered - forming an ongoing cycle of disjointed communication. Though these surfaces continually shift, these pieces explore what endures within the city and in the minds of those who wrote or encountered them. \\

Jona Krasniqi presents a new series tracing the journey of thoughts from mind to wall — moving from private reflection to visible mark. Documenting graffiti across Prishtina, she observes the places where voices take shape, revealing the cultural layers of the city.
Through photo transfers onto wood, she preserves the paradox of a public diary: words that fade, get altered, or are covered, forming an ongoing cycle of disjointed communication. Lovely poster design by: @pedroresendezz !!
I’m a London-born artist from Kosovo. My family fled right before the war in search of refuge, eventually settling in the UK. Over time, both personally and artistically, I’ve found myself returning to that past, seeking to understand its impact.
Much of my recent work centers on Kosovo’s brutalist architecture, particularly the remnants of Prishtina’s Grand Hotel. Despite the haunting traces of the 1998 war etched into its walls, it remains partially open and continues to welcome visitors - a poignant symbol of resilience and redemption.
As part of my research, I spoke with local residents and family members, gathering stories that stretched across decades. Isa Rexha, the hotel’s director who began working there as a young security guard, spoke about the hotel’s enduring place in the cultural life of Prishtina. His recollections of the early days, the pride he took in the building, and what it once represented - deepened my understanding of the hotel’s shifting role in Kosovo’s social, political and architectural history. He shared details that might have otherwise gone unrecorded, offering a perspective so valuable that I felt a responsibility to share it.
I hold closely the importance of contributing to ongoing conversations around preservation. Through intimate reflection and documentation, I aim to encourage deeper understanding - or at the very least, ensure the dialogue continues. Keeping the conversation alive is the only way to protect what might otherwise be lost.

Wooden reliefs!
My process involves transferring my photographs onto sculptural forms. I apply these images onto MDF wood using photo-transfer techniques or project them directly onto the surface. I use a minimalistic approach to emphasise the structural depth of the architecture.
As Rachel Whiteread said, ‘Surfaces of daily life can disappear and reappear, bearing the traces of their previous lives.’
These projects give me the chance to place viewers in spaces they might not otherwise encounter. A chance to maybe feel those very ‘traces’ embedded in the details.

Heyy I’m Jona (@metalstems ) - ASP 11✴️I’ll be taking over for a bit! I’m excited to show you the kind of work I make, my process and what I’ve been working on since moving into the Stockwell studio!
… A bit about my practice!
I work with both traditional and digital mediums, often repurposing my photographs. Central to my practice is a desire to delineate and document the invisible weight of overlooked moments. Unravelling the past and longing for its preservation…
