Time is an incredible thing.â
â
Past, present and future are not disconnected ideas. Like feedback in an audio circuit, each informs the other in dynamic ways. â
â
MESS exists at that fulcrum. We house the stories of Australian electronic music innovation and experimentation â stories that explain, in part, the extraordinary richness of the form in this country today. We look back to enrich the present, so the future of creativity belongs to everyone. â
â
On April Foolsâ Day 2026, that feedback circuit turns ten. â

ROS BANDT: PROGRAMME NOTE | SONOROUS XIIIâ
â
Ahead of Sonorous XIII tonight, learn from the internationally acclaimed sound artist pioneering new forms of sonic art, Ros Bandt (@rosbandt ).â
â
Tonight spans fifty years of practice, in which Ros explores the elasticity of time in her reconstruction of a patch she first developed for the VCS3 Putney in 1972, an indeterminate graphic score for flute and synthesizer drawn from the I Ching.â
â
Outside of that, you can expect anything from a duet of sea urchins devouring kelp in Greece to Aeolian harps recorded in Moonbi, New South Wales.â
â
"Consider your whole body as a haptic visceral listening chamber."â
â

The Roland Jupiter-6 has arrived. đŞâ
â
Often overshadowed by its big brother, the JP-6 is a powerhouse in its own right: 12 analog oscillators, 6 voices, and that classic Roland warmth. Itâs also a piece of history as one of the first synths used to demonstrate MIDI in 1983 â alongside the Sequential Circuits Prophet-600.â
â
Now available to book and play.â

Big thank you to everyone who joined us for a Studio Tour last month. đď¸â
â
A lot of ground was covered in half an hour. Synthesisers rescued from a skip bin outside a closing university music department. A composer who took over the Grainger Museum in the 1960s â because he wanted to share his instruments. The only working VCS1 in the world, which Nine Inch Nails' Alessandro Cortini once stumbled across here and ended up recording a track with.â
â
None of it is behind glass. All of it is available to book and play. Thanks for coming and learning the rich histories behind these wonderful machines. â
â
Next tour is coming up soon â spots go fast so join our mailing list to be the first to know. â
