“So here we are with ZZZEN™’s 6th tape opus and another interesting one, kind of a rebound from Brodinski’s take, referring to a similar array of twisted r’n’b, stripped pop, contemporary FX in Caravaggio, chiaroscuro-like contrasts, and another dismantling and reprising of the hip-hop body, forming a new hybrid sonic creature, meticulously engineered, laser-stitched, giving voice to a myriad of digital sirens.
The music is by the Zurich-based producer Merlin « Modulaw », a busy busy pro sound head and eternal student of the air who has released his first album « The Songweaver » this year, which came out as a perfect summation of his work so far. There and within this new Songs With No End cassette you’ll explore his attachment to the new hip-hop and trap scenes through collabs with French reps Le Diouck, Rad Cartier or Bonnie Banane and their American counterparts Lil Xelly, Nutso Thugn and more. The Swiss is educated in electro-acoustics and the craft you sense in these coprods on the A-side flows wider and further through the nebula in the other half. The decorum sets: the composition is enriched with delicate touches of strings and keys, warms a cosy, jazzy-like niche for more musicians to join (Dæmon, Helen Island, Xzavier Stone..) this 2x30’ vivarium.” —
