My first Mother’s Day with our Luna Bear! The road to get here wasn’t easy—trying to conceive, carrying her, delivering (breech!), and facing medical challenges all along the way. But every hurdle has been so worth it. My favorite moments are the quiet ones—just the two of us, early mornings before the world wakes up. This little one has filled my life with love, laughter, joy, and sunshine. Every tear, every challenge, every sleepless night—totally worth it. Being her mom is the greatest gift I could have ever asked for. It is humbling and fills me with an immense amount of gratitude everyday. Here’s to celebrating all the amazing women who fill this role! 🤍💗💛

It can tell a story; my story, your story, others stories. It can take us somewhere new, away from our everyday experiences. It can bring so much sadness, but also so much joy. Dance crosses borders. It keeps us in community with the world. Dance, is an act of diplomacy. It is the art and science of maintaining peaceful relationships between nations, groups, or individuals. It can be an act of resistance; for freedom and democracy.🇺🇦 🤍

I first met and danced with Kate @lacdckate in 2009 at @batesdancefestival in Nancy Stark Smith’s contact improvisation class. We both entered the festival with high energy, zest and zeal to move, groove, learn, share, and find joy in what the community of dance at BDF has to offer. Fast forward to 2021. In that time Kate has not only co-founded @lacontemporarydance with a forward thinking model of rotating artistic directorship of badass women and an internationally renowned dance company, but also owns the new space @stompinggroundla where artists gather, create, dance, support and commune together. Importantly, Kate truly takes the time to listen, hear, and put into action the practice and needs of the community by providing access and opportunities-while also in partnership with many others. She’s a total rockstar. Changing the way dance happens and should be offered. Here’s to highlighting more women breaking the glass ceiling in our industry, while also balancing being a Mom, wife, artist, teacher, advocate and active community member. 💥
