As we retreat inside to rest, much of the natural world becomes alive… I can’t wait to bring Dusk Sounds to life at @mpavilion on 16 April at 6pm, the perfect setting that brings the outside in. I’ll be combining flutes and nocturnal field recordings to create a curious, kaleidoscopic dusk soundscape. And best of all, it’s free! Dusk Sounds is presented by MPavilion. We’re excited to have @clariloops and @meredithbeardmore sharing the stage and exploring sound at our next event on May 31st at @abbotsfordconvent Meredith Beardmore is a flute player who inhabits many genres, from baroque, folk, and improvised music. She plays exclusively on wooden, simple system flutes, finding the nuance, immediacy, and tactile nature of these flutes much more alluring. Meredith enjoys pushing this old instrument in new directions and combines it with field recordings & samples, improvisation and various sound manipulations. Her debut album, Scribbly Gums, was released in 2024 through Paris-based free music label Nunc and has been described as ā€˜hypnotic’ and ā€˜meditative’. Her second album, The Long Blue Horizon, is due for release in mid-2026. Clariloops is the project of Ruby Ester Mae through which she weaves clarinet melodies into layered electronic atmospheres. Drawing on a foundation in classical music and a deep passion for ambient electronica, Ruby uses clarinet, effects pedals, and synthesisers to create meditative sonic journeys that invite deep listening and introspection. Book a ticket in our bio. Can’t wait to see you there!

Join us on the last day of Autumn (Sunday 31 May) for a @warmmidsafternoon at the Oratory, Abbotsford Convent – a cosy, slow-moving afternoon with @_willebrant , @clariloops + @meredithbeardmore . This is not your standard gig. No stiff seats or standing awkwardly with a drink in hand. Instead, you’re invited to settle in. Bring a yoga matt/picnic rug, a cushion, blankets, perhaps something to read or make… or just lie back and soak up the sounds.Ā  We'd love to see you there! Tickets through the link in our bioĀ šŸŽ¶

Dusk Sounds sneak preview #2: Fruit bats! (sometimes referred to as flying foxes) They’ve had a bit of a hard time from us humans. I’ve been considering all the native, nocturnal animals that we’ve struggled with and how perceptions have shifted over time. I think fruit bats are finally get their due. Bats are cool šŸ¦‡šŸ¦‡šŸ¦‡ Dusk Sounds is presented by MPavilion. Thurs 16 April. Links to more info in bio. #fieldrecordings #mpavilion #livemusicmelbourne

Super excited to share an upcoming performance at @mpavilion , Dusk Sounds. I’ll be combining all my weird and wonderful nocturnal field recordings with a variety of flutes. And it’s free! Curiously, the day it’s online I finish a book called Dusk. Coincidence?! It’s a great book, would recommend. Dusk Sounds is presented by MPavilion. #flute #fieldrecordings #livemusicmelbourne #mpavilion

Finding it a bit hard to believe it's been 15 years since my Masters thesis. 😳 It's probably a bit self indulgent to share some quotes from my conclusion... but I'm genuinely curious to know what my fellow classical and HIP friends think. Do these quote-bites still hold? Or maybe you disagree with them entirely! And what's changed in 15 years? Where to now?
