When Ismail learned about our dream for School of Hope, he offered his full support. On his own time and entirely pro bono, he created a stunning, fully AI-generated video that brought our initiative to life. He gave his expertise, his creativity, and his hours to a project he believed in for students he will never meet.
School of Hope is a fully remote, U.S. accredited high school built to eliminate the statistic that 2 in 5 people globally will not finish high school.
But it’s more than a school. Students are supported through every step with trauma-informed pedagogy, mental health care woven into the curriculum itself, and MENTEE. When they graduate every School of Hope student gains access to global mentors, university pathways, fellowships, and remote work opportunities, for life.
Ismail saw individual human beings with futures worth fighting for when he created this moving film. In the video, he captures perfectly the hope we want to offer.

For millions around the world, tomorrow marks the Persian New Year. Families gather around the Haft-Sin table, set with seven symbolic items representing life, renewal, and hope.
Our graphic designer, @madicrafted captured this spirit beautifully in her artwork here. An Afghan girl in traditional clothes, holding Haft Mewa, the special mix of dried fruits prepared for Nowruz. She wove in Sabzeh, a fish, an Afghan carpet, and at the center of it all, a horse, because this year, in the Afghan calendar, belongs to the horse.
There’s something very beautiful about a tradition that says: before the new year begins, surround yourself with symbols of what you’re hoping for.
At MENTEE, our hope for this new season is simple: that every person who has been told the door is closed finds someone who helps them open it. That the girls and women in Afghanistan, the person rebuilding in a new country, those fighting past limited resources find their circle of support and their path forward. Like Nowruz itself, MENTEE is built on the belief that renewal is always possible, and that no one should have to face a new beginning alone.
To everyone celebrating Nowruz, sal-e no mobarak (happy new year)! And to everyone else: take a moment to reflect on what your own hopes are for this new season. 🌱

#InternationalWomensDay is a moment to reflect: what kind of world do women face today, and what are we doing to build a better one for tomorrow?
We are grateful for the people who inspire us to do more for women. Look around and pause. Who inspires you and how will you act on that inspiration?
At the same time, we must recognize women facing extreme challenges. Afghan women with intelligence, ambition, and resilience navigate a world where access to education, professional opportunities, and the global community is increasingly restricted.
Yet they continue to study, build skills, support one another, and mentor others. Around the world, many women face higher barriers, but they refuse to let their dreams disappear - and so do we.

Uncertainty is part of being human. How we deal with it shapes ourselves and our future. On February 27, 2026, MENTEE is hosting a live session: Managing Emotions During Times of Uncertainty
Led by Deema Akl, clinical psychology graduate student. This session is about building inner steadiness. You will gain a better ability to think clearly, lead thoughtfully, and remain more grounded even during challenging times.
Participants will explore:
• Practical tools to regulate emotions
• Skills to navigate ambiguity with greater confidence
• Strategies to manage anxiety effectively
At MENTEE, we believe access to opportunity must include access to psychological tools. When people learn how to understand and guide their emotions, they strengthen not only themselves, but the communities they shape.

At the heart of what MENTEE is able to do is something simple: one person deciding that another person’s future matters. Whether that commitment comes from a partner organization or from an individual offering their time, it begins with the same belief … that our fellow human beings’ lives matter.
Years ago, when we expanded globally, one of the very first people to step forward as a global mentor was Duccio Manetti. He chose to invest his time in people because he believed access to knowledge and guidance should not be determined by challenge, but by drive.
Duccio has mentored consistently across borders, participated in research on MENTEE conducted by top universities through the former GCRF fund, offered thoughtful counsel to our team, and was always available with generosity, humility, and a belief in our community.
Today, we are proud to share that Duccio is joining MENTEE’s Board of Directors.
MENTEE was built on the belief that one human, anywhere in the world, can meaningfully transform another’s future.
But the impact does not flow in only one direction. Mentor and mentee alike are expanded by the relationship and gaining insight, humility, and wisdom far beyond what either imagined.
Duccio embodies this spirit of giving and learning. And now we are incredibly honored to have him join our Board to help fuel our mission with the same energy and enthusiasm he has brought to all of his mentoring relationships.

Today we celebrate education and continue to push for human rights, especially the right to education for all women.
At MENTEE, education is at the heart of everything we do. It is the pathway that allows individuals to move beyond circumstance and take control of their lives. Because of the commitment of our mentors, partners, and supporters, mentees around the world have accessed higher learning once out of reach.
Today, we are honored to celebrate two of our longest-standing mentees.
Nant Smile Lin Htut shared:
“My educational journey reflects determination and growth, with each chapter opening new opportunities. As a displaced student and the first in my family to attend an international university on a scholarship, I have learned how education empowers individuals and shapes futures.”
Nan Su Wai Zin Htet Aung shared:
“My educational journey began as a refugee and has led me to become an international student through the support of others. There is no one in this world who wanted to leave their hometown, but they were forced to, which is why I value this opportunity and intend to give back to people from refugee backgrounds in the future.”
These stories show what becomes possible when education is accessible and individuals are supported. 💜
At the same time, we are deeply concerned by ongoing educational injustices. Many of our female Afghan mentees are denied access to education simply because of their gender.
Education is not a privilege. It is a fundamental human right. As affirmed by the #UniversalDeclarationofHumanRights, everyone has the right to education without discrimination.
On this #InternationalDayofEducation, we celebrate what education makes possible—and call on governments and communities to ensure education is accessible to all learners, everywhere, including Afghan women.
Education changes lives. Defending access to it shapes our collective future.
