My newest project Time Capsule—The profound fact about photographs is that they will outlive us. As I began to pare down the thousands of slides accumulated over my career, Experimenting the slides sat in salt water and were exposed to sand, extreme temperatures for two years.
Over time, the slides morphed—transformed by nature—shifting the mechanically produced photograph into abstracted color and form in unexpectedly magical ways. No longer describing the world I once photographed, the images continue to reflect something true: how time edits, reorders, and remakes everything we believe to be fixed.

I am presenting a new body of work - Time Capsule - Even as the slides lose their original clarity, they gain new meaning, becoming time capsules— shaped by chance, altered by nature, and paradoxically renewed through their destruction.

One of the surprises for me as an artist has been seeing how my relationship to my work changes over time. I look back on projects and often perceive different meanings and motivations than I sensed in the moment. I work intuitively and often don’t know the “why” behind what I am doing; I just know that I feel compelled to create, synthesize, and sometimes write about where these images take me, too.
I’m @elizabeth_bailey01 and I am thrilled to have my project “The House Next Door” on display at The Art Center Highland Park with nine other talented artists: @alinesmithson , @atelierlemay , @dianedhemingway , @elizabeth_bailey01 , @jenniferpritchardstudio , @lordover , @rosalierosenthal , @sarahhadleystudio , and @susanlapides .
Our collective project “Memory is a Verb” has shown in a few locations now, and with every new iteration, something in my perspective changes. And really, that’s what we mean by “Memory is a Verb,” it’s never fixed and frozen and resolved.
