FASHION IN BLOOM 2026 IS NOW ON VIEW AT THE DANFORTH!
MEET THE WINNERS OF THE FSU MANCUSO FASHION AWARDS PROGRAM.
Established in 2022, these four awards support the talent and effort of FSU Fashion Design and Retailing majors. Executive Director of The Mancuso Humanities Workforce Preparation Center and former English Professor, Halcyon Mancuso, founded and, with FSU Fashion Design faculty, manages the annual FSU Mancuso Fashion Awards Program through which four senior fashion design students receive a $1,000 prize in four categories: artistry, innovation, construction, and marketability. Inspired by works the students have viewed at the Museum during the past year, the Danforth is pleased to showcase the talent of FSU’s Fashion and Design students. All photographs were taken at the FSU Spring Fashion Show, where the designers debuted their full collections.

Floriography: Decoding and Drawing Plants
A 4-Week Class with Colleen Colvin @thinkingbearherbal
May 12 - June 2 from 12:30-3:30pm
In this new 4-week class, students will explore the ways that various plants have been imbued with meaning and even used to convey messages across time and culture. Students will participate in a live botanical study and create observational drawings of various plants, practicing techniques to capture nuance and details of the plants in colored pencil and other drawing media.
Herbal Salves with Colleen Colvin
May 9 from 10am-12pm
Join local herbalist Colleen Colvin and explore the ways herbs can be our allies for emotional, holistic and aesthetic tranquility. Learn about the benefits of these medicinal plants and how they can help us improve our lives. This workshop for adults offers a healing space for herbal monograph journaling, followed by hands-on blending of herbs to create personalized healing salves to take home.
Branching Out: A Drawing Workshop with Susan Bauer
May 16 from 10am-4pm
Tree branches will our be our inspiration in this workshop, where students will create dynamic compositions utilizing the linear and twisting nature of the branches. We will discuss the elements of design; line, value, texture, color, shape and principles of design: harmony, variety, balance, proportion, dominance, movement and economy. Composition will play a large part of our exploration, examining how to arrange tree branches within the picture plane. The Danforth in Paris next week for the Meta Vaux Warrick Symposium!
Museum Director and Curator Jessica Roscio and Assistant Director and Collections Manager Rachel Passannante are representing the Danforth and speaking at a symposium on artist Meta Vaux Warrick Fuller at Reid Hall in Paris next week. Speakers also include FSU professor Erika Schneider and Fuller’s grandson David Fuller, among other scholars and curators. All events will be taking place on May 4 and 5, and YOU CAN JOIN VIA ZOOM!

In her global study of quarantine islands, photographer Rachel Loischild @rachelloischild explores how history imprints itself on the land. Her sublime landscape photographs are a mechanism for discussing the past and understanding the relationship between the land and its legacy. Join the Danforth Art Museum and a panel of speakers in considering the impact of art and history in shaping our understanding of place, culture, and memory.

Detours are deconstructed traditional museum guided tours presented by our Museum Ambassadors, a trained team of FSU student guides. Discover Danforth Art Museum’s exhibitions through Detours, each one specially designed to guide you to look at art and talk about art from a new perspective.
During the month of April and May, Detours will focus on themes related to memories. A Detour is approximately 45 minutes long, and it is a FREE walk-in program with museum admission. And of course, on Saturday, April 25 entrance to the Museum is FREE!

Join us on Tuesday, May 7 (6-00 PM – 7:00 PM) for Echoes of Nature—a site-specific performance at the @danforthartframingham .
Poet-naturalist Kim Hoff and singer songwriter Jess Martin @jessmartinmusic bring the museum’s current exhibits to life through an immersive blend of original music and nature-based poetry. Inspired by Memory Is a Verb and Rachel Loischild: Quarantine Islands, this performance explores the deep connection between our local Massachusetts landscapes and the resilience we find through art. In a fast-paced world, come find a moment of peace and reflection. Explore the galleries, listen deeply, and experience how art transports us through sight, sound, and word.
