A great hotel can really elevate your travel experience. And thanks to @expedia , I always find gems and never break the bank. I love a vibey situation but I also like to reserve my coins for other aspects of the travel experience. I saved about $600 on this trip thanks to my expedia status + my accumulated Key cash. Expedia, if you're looking for a fresh partner, look no further. 🙋🏾♀️ I'm just sayin...
Anyhoo, back to the hotel- As soon as I saw the photos of @nhowlima , I knew it was the one. The colors and decor, the heated pool, and proximity to local attractions- a no-brainer for me. And you know ya girl has to have breakfast included and nhow truly delivered with a delicious breakfast spread and eggs to order each morning. Aside from aesthetics, service was exceptional! The staff were all kind, warm and accomodating. I told them I'll def be back soon and I've never meant that more.

The beauty of Barranco- Lima's art district. 🎨
Did a walking tour w/ @limabywalkingfreetour and ended with the most spectacular sunset. So glad we were able go catch it. Visted the Jade Rivera museum and came home with a few prints (and stickers) from the artist. Such beautiful work.
Pensar con el Corazon - To think with the heart 💓

One of the easiest ways for me to immerse myself in local culture is via a cooking class, so I try to do them when I travel somewhere new. Peru was no different and boy, did we have a time. I left with a full heart and an equally full belly, thanks to César & Chef Ruth of @hakutours . What was even cooler, my classmates were a lovely couple from Baltimore!! What are the chances?! So you know we hit it off right away.
First we hit the local market to learn about ingredients common to Peruvian cuisine. Then we learned about local fruits and got to sample a variety of them.
What we made:
Potatoes w/ 2 salsas
Causa: a layered mashed potato and quinoa dish
Lomo Saltado: A stir fried beef dish
And we washed it all down w/ fresh passion fruit juice.
The whole experience was chef's kiss! 🤌🏾

Had the absolute pleasure of dining at @xomaperu , a Peruvian fusion restaurant, and the experience was Chef's kiss! 🤌🏾👌🏾 10/10. The dishes were innovative and absolutely delicious. The presentation was an experience by itself. Thank you to the staff for explaining the options to me and helping to guide my decisions. Even my mocktail (floral soda) was amazing. It had passion fruit, lavender, cucumber and a little heat- so delicious. If you ever visit Lima, Xoma is a must!
- PAICHE: Tartar of Paiche and banana in a wonton shell, topped w/crispy banana served atop of a Paiche head
- MIL PAPAS: A bed of flavorful mashed potato. Layered within: purple potato chips, pulpo, shrimp, thin slices of fish, assorted caviar and green sauce as the base. I can't remember the type of sauce, but it was incredible. This was my favorite dish of the night.
- PESCA SOSTENIBLE: The most unique "curry" dish I've ever had. The fish was buttery soft to the palate- the texture was unreal! Maybe sous vide or poached, but it was marvelous. Topped with leche de tigre (Tiger milk), fresh greens and sitting on a base of 2 sauces (milk based + curry). And the rice, my gawd!!!! I could eat that rice alone and my belly would be happy- buttery and flavorful and contrasted beautifully with the charred baby corn. Gimme 2 more bowls, please.

For me, it's dance- a product of my culture and my aunties, who are never afraid to buss a good whine.
So, this is me, dancing my way through the world and through life.
1. Belize: Learning traditional Garifuna dance
2. DC: Tekkin' a whine with a sista at @rockharper 's bar while @kapri.possible hypes us up
3. Puerto Rico: Jumping in to dance as the band passes by
4. Barbados: solo soca party
5. Mexico: Poolside salsa class w/my sis in love
6. Antigua: On a boat, catchin' a vibe
7. DC: Sexyyyy laaaadies. Iykyk. My girl @mslex202 always gon hype me up. Love you boo! 😘
8. DC: Up & Up Open Mic, the reunion after so many years. I really do miss that era!
9. Cartagena: Joined in during a street performance. The commentary from the lady hyping me up absolutely tickled me. She wasn't even the one recording. 😆
10. Guyana: Pulled up by a stranger to dance 🎶"why yuh don post himmmmmm"
11. Curaçao: Learning traditional Tambu dance. Everytime I watch this video, I crack up bc it looks so chaotic. There was truly a lot going on.
Antigua: Ending with more boat vibes on my 2nd trip to Antigua.
Looking forward to adding more of these videos as I continue to explore the world.
Took some time to enjoy the beautiful weather yesterday by indulging in @artinbloom.dc . I missed it last year, so I was happy to catch it this year. It was a flower lover's dream! Floral arrangements as pieces of art? Yes please!

Got to check out @tawnychatmon 's exhibit, Sanctuaries of Truth, Dissolution of Lies, at National Museum of Women in the Arts. A beautiful exhibit celebrating Black culture, challengeing biases and reclaiming objects and stories once meant to paint our culture negatively. The pieces are stunning and the detail in exquisite. I even got to meet a few of her beautiful "sitters." An afternoon well spent. 🖤
