Happy Monday genté 📿 today I wanted to share a couple short clips of one of my oldest friends, Aldo’Onie , recording “A Letter To You, Ma” which is one of two songs featuring him off my latest albums #RatherVexxxed 2 Volume 1 (thank you so much to everyone that has been streaming it - link in bio). Months prior to recording this track in 2021, on a 4th of July he was heading home on his bike down Whittier Blvd. and these two cars were shooting at each other. He unfortunately caught a stray bullet to one of his legs and fell off his bike and collapsed at a nearby taco truck right across the street from my families restaurant in #EastLos. One of the people at the taco truck called the ambulance then passed him the phone and he called me, then his wife. True story. So after that he became a little harder to find and get a hold of. He basically goes into detail on our track “Close Calls”. It was even harder to get em in the studio, for a long while. So when I did manage to get em on a beat, he wanted to record it at my apartment closer to home and after hearing the first version of the song he wanted to redo it and my condition was that we tracked it at my studio (which explains these two separate clips).

I see this food truck every morning and it reminds me of my mom, her last name was Madrigal by way of her first marriage. She was an amazing cook and had her own restaurant for over 20 years right on #WhittierBlvd in #EastLA . She purchased her establishment from money she made and saved from selling menudo y birria de chivo at our house for 5 years. She had told me in the past that she had worked in a food truck for a few years. Between this and the monarch butterfly’s, I am constantly reminded that she is all around me. I used #RatherVexxxed II : Volume II to share just a few milestones of my amazing mother’s life and I thank those who’ve tuned in to listen.
