[RECAP] Scrolling through the calendar, we found @mellowfest_ , an annual music festival that platforms underground artists, and we went to see what it’s about, so we checked it out, took it in, and met the community it brings together.
Behind the festival is @mellowcouch , a record label founded in 2020 by @manzifleur , @sema_sole , and producer @nshuti.reddy , with @mwiza.rw joining in 2022 to expand the collective’s sound and catalogue. The festival grew out of smaller shows they organised, evolving in 2023 into a recurring platform for underground Rwandan artists.
The 2026 edition brought together @herartiistry , @et.rw , @jeroismusic , @kidfromkigali , @manzifleur , @mwiza.rw , @99_gang_ , @paintedblvck , @rlutta_ , @sema_sole , @shejalau , and @thedicekid . Each artist contributed to the experimental, genre-fluid spirit at the core of Mellowfest.

Lately, music, especially Rwandan music, has been one of my biggest sources of inspiration. Not the mainstream kind, but the kind filled with intention, passion, and real creativity.
In a community that can sometimes feel hesitant about change or the unfamiliar, MELLOWFEST has created space for artists to fully shine in their craft while also bringing together music lovers who are searching for more than just a show.
We had the chance to speak with Manzi Fleur (@manzifleur ), one of the curators behind MELLOWFEST, about what makes it different, how it’s grown, and why spaces like this are essential for the future of the music scene in Rwanda.
