Excited to share my installation 'You can't run, but you can hide' with you all! The work is part of the group show 'You'll never understand what I put you through', featuring work by @plaisi_r , @mathijsvansark , and me. It is on view right now at @aokunsthalle in Leipzig, until 21 January 2023.
Huge thanks to Glenn Plaisier for organising the show, the people at a&o Kunsthalle for hosting us, my dad for teaching me how to build things, and Mathijs van Sark for his last-minute help. ❤🔥
This work was made possible in part by the @mondriaanfonds , who are supporting me with a grant during 2022-2023. 💫

Wake up to 𝘿𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙢𝘼𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙖
New work, recently shown at @art_rotterdam for Prospects 2024. Major thanks to @mondriaanfonds and curators @elvisgustavsson and @louisebjeldbak for making this possible
“’DreamArena’ (2024) mashes together a surreal array of real footage, animation, and AI, set against a backdrop of authoritatively commercial cardboard boxes. The eye-adorned boxes maintain a constant watch over the audience as they watch the video. The 45-minute video features short segments that draw their unhinged inspiration from digital culture and archive material. A spooky YouTube documentary and a botched chicken sacrifice are offset by a Japanese visual novel referencing Skyrim and a dissatisfactory Arsenal match. Through a dream-like repetition of these segments, with subtle variations, the viewer’s perception of the accuracy of their own memory is unsettled. Nieling’s work invites an introspection on how easily imagined narratives can seep into our perception of the real.” - Jürgen Zeller

excerpt of Comfort Zone (2025)
by @mellenieling & @amelie.mckee
Part of Afterfire for @minor.attractions
After building the perfect house, securing education, promotions, and a stable relationship for your Sims, the simulation inevitably unravels and the dream becomes a site of combustion. ‘Comfort Zone’ observes the pursuit of idealised standards and how it so often concludes in spectucular death.

Milk Teeth, Wildfire (2025)
by @mellenieling & @amelie.mckee on show @minor.attractions until 18/10
Afterfire continues our ongoing exploration of concept-driven scenography, where we deliberately experiment with applying digital logic in the creation of physical environments. Centring on the architecture of play and its entanglement with power, it approaches the playhouse not as a shelter, but rather a stage of insidious violence, where roles are assigned and hierarchies rehearsed.
Open Wed 15 - 17 (12-8PM)

✨ CFC Members Spotlight: Plicnik Space Initiative (@plicnikspaceinitiative ) ✨
In this month’s CFC Members Spotlight, we’re thrilled to share an inspiring conversation with curators Amélie Mckee (@amelie.mckee ) & Melle Nieling (@mellenieling ) of Plicnik Space Initiative, whose work challenges and reimagines the traditional white cube gallery format.
Plicnik Space Initiative investigates the interplay between online and physical territories, creating experimental environments for artists to explore new ways of making and showing work.
From launching their first open call in the form of an online spaceship to staging snow machines in art fairs, their curatorial approach blends concept-driven scenography with a playful tension between digital and physical worlds.
Dive into the full interview on our blog to explore their vision for residencies, community critique sessions, and new approaches to art presentation. Link in bio 🔗

MEME-MAKER RESIDENCY | Crit Club: Meme Debates
Back at it with some top-tier memes by Melle Nieling (@mellenieling ), our meme-maker in residence for the ongoing exhibition Crit Club: Meme Debates. 🗯️💻
Melle attended the second live debate 👀, where two teams of speakers sparred over the central dilemma: 'Do memes unite or divide?' 🤝⚔️
All the while, Melle was busy behind the screen👨💻, thinking up memes in real time, because a good meme might just be the thing that unites the debate... or is it? 💬
The Crit Club exhibition is on view until 29 June, don't miss it!
Exhibition Tickets: Regular €6 / Discount €5
📅 18 May — 29 June 2025
