Happy #blackhistorymonth good people. ♥️
As a writer, creative, or just a lover of storytelling, what through lines do you see between This Is Us and Paradise? (Given that they’re created by the same person, who works with a lot of the same major players on both shows in front of and behind the camera). a few of my favorites:
- Playing across timelines. The writers go from the present, to the past, back to the present, and sometimes in the future.
- N.E.R.Ding out. N(o) O(ne) E(ver) D(ies) in the show thanks to well placed flashbacks.
What are some things that you have connected between the two?
Literally one of my favorite shows on TV right now @paradiseonhulu@streamthisisus
When I wrote ‘This world does not move without Black creativity’ back in 2020 I meant it. I LIVE by it so I’m putting pen to paper to share the full meaning of it.
If you’re a fan of THIS ✨billboard, I have something extra special coming for you and the only way you’ll get the news is by subscribing to my newsletter @writeatthetable 📧 — details coming soon!
Let’s make this #BlackHistoryMonth a LOUD one ya’ll in honor of our past, our present, and our future ✊🏾
HAPPY 100 YEAR OF BLACK HISTORY MONTH GOOD PEOPLE! ♥️
Do you hear that?
Beyond the pain, the loss, the devastation, the bullshit
Do you hear them?
Beyond the lies, the mistreatment, the fight, the rage
Can you feel them?
Our ancestors’ are telling us, calling to us
Our creativity is ours to employ during these times
Because even in times of chaos
We’ve always created our own way out and through
And that is what we’ll continue to do.
Can you hear them?
Saying be encouraged.
Encouraging us to rely on our gifts, our imaginations, our intuition that can be found inside of us.
Reimagining for the sake of justice
in the name of love and freedom
We shall overcome was not just a song.
It was an assignment.
So let’s get to it,
Melissa ♥️

“I’ll push back on the debate between community care and self care only slightly by reminding you, dear reader, there is no either/or. There is no need to apply scarcity to the idea that Black women can only receive or request care one way.
We need both.
Both exist in harmony.”

“A revolutionary woman can’t have no reactionary man.
If he’s not about liberation, if he’s not about struggle, if he ain’t about building a strong Black family, if he ain’t about building a strong Black nation, then he ain’t about nothing.”
