It’s been a full week since the release of my first song of the year.
On top of that, this is the first time I’ve ever made house music.
It’s always scary sharing art where you venture down a new path. Leaving the safety of hip-hop and jazz allowed me to create something I’ve never made before. And honestly, I wouldn’t even say that I left their safety - those teachers + those inspirations guided me through this. Because at the end of the day, it’s all black music, and it’s all connected.
I cherished this song for months debating on what it would even look like sharing it since it’s so different from what I’ve usually share. But God put it on my heart to release this. And I’m so grateful I did.
Almost at 20k in 1 week on Spotify alone with no editorial support - thank you to everyone for running this up. I hope you’re encouraged to release the things you’ve been holding onto this year.

a few of my revenue streams as an artist/producer and how I got here.
I wanted to peel back the curtain a bit to share some of the ways that I’ve been able to pay my rent.
If you’ve been paying attention, there are a lot of variables in the music industry that are making it increasingly challenging to have a viable career making art (infrastructure, AI, algorithms, etc). I’ve been feeling that weight too. But I wanted to share just a few ways that have been serving me well through it all.
One thing that I didn’t get to mention here is the importance of leaning into your strengths to identify even more pathways that allow you to create at your fullest (I.e. sound design, scoring, sync, music director, a certain instrument, creative direction, etc).
All of your bread doesn’t need to come from one source, and shouldn’t. Rather, it should be coming from multiple sources.
Last thing: Own your IP. Register your work. Get with a pub to make sure you’re collecting in all territories, not just locally.
