Fresh off our latest episode of The Exchange, we dive into the stunning work of Ghanaian photojournalist and filmmaker @carlosidun 📸 With his lens, Idun-Tawiah reclaims the cultural narrative around African hair braiding. Inspired by the need to honor the roots of this art form, his photo series, Obaasima (meaning “woman of substance” in Twi), is a powerful tribute to the history, community, and beauty braided into every strand. In collaboration with creative director @josefadamu , Obaasima builds on the legacy of Adamu’s The Hair Appointment. This time, the story continues in Ghana, bringing us closer to the origin of braiding traditions. Through Obaasima, Idun-Tawiah reminds us that hair braiding is more than just aesthetics. It’s history. It’s heritage. It’s a crown we wear. 👑 Swipe through to immerse yourself in the artistry of Obaasima and the beauty of African culture. Let us know: what does your crown mean to you? #MelaninUnscripted #TheExchange #Obaasima #CarlosIdunTawiah #JosefAdamu #HairBraiding #BlackCreatives
