Every story has a beginning—this is a bit of mine.
The work I do, the projects I care about, and the parts I never quite know how to write about. Swipe through… it’s the really serious stuff at the end 👀 #Storytelling #CreativeWork #AboutMe #DiasporaStories #CreativeProcess

At the Breakfast Table by @defnesuman and I already miss spending time with these characters. Powerful, beautifully observant, and full of conversations that linger long after the last page. I really enjoyed this book, a thoughtful, intimate read about memory, belonging, and the lives we carry with us. Have you read At the Breakfast Table? What are your thoughts? What have you been reading lately? #Book #bookreviewer #bookstagram #kitapkardeşliği #kitapkulübü

Take the girl out the factory but can’t take the factory out the girl. I think I talk about the factory days so much the kids knew exactly what the best Mother’s Day treat would be for me. I’d heard about @slowburnlondon at @blackhorselane for ages but never had the chance to go. The food is good! I mean really good, we ate loads! From the black bean tacos, the curried mussels, the stuffed aubergines, labneh courgettes, bbq chicken, earl grey ice cream and so much more… I mean it, we ate loads and honestly, the food was incredible. But more importantly sitting in that factory took me straight back to Erol Amca’s factory in Bethnal Green. where I spent some of my school holidays growing up. Packing tiny buttons into little plastic bags, the spare ones you’d find inside coats. The bundle boxes pushed together for shared lunches. The belly dancers swaying their hips on the cutters table at Christmas parties. The Collective celebrations and the collective sorrows. This was never just a factory, it was an entire institution. Filled with abundance of characters. The ones who weren’t necessarily important to everyone, but somehow became unforgettable to us. This week I invite you to write about a character. Who’s a character from your past that still lives vividly in your memory? Maybe: * a market trader * the receptionist at your GP surgery * The neighbour with the blue rinse * A worker at your local chippy What made them unforgettable? Take your time with it. See who comes up first for you. #writersofinstagram #writingprompt #london #placestoeat #eastlondon

🌹This time of year always pulls me back to something🌹 The 5th and 6th of May mark Hıdırellez, which has always been very special to me, both as a family and cultural tradition. The time where the seasons shift and where something soft begins again. Growing up, it was woven through small rituals. We’d tie our wishes to the rose bush, trusting that Hızır, the healer, and Ilyas, the bringer of good fortune, would meet on earth and quietly bless them. Then we’d wake up and wash our hands and faces with rose water, to begin the season fresh, to protect against illness. Then we’d jump over fire, letting the smoke carry away negativity and, of course, any trace of nazar. These things and many more rituals have stayed with me. I don’t always practise it in the same way now. But I find myself returning to the feeling of it, the reflection of the previous year, the hope, the belief that something can shift. I hope the spirit behind these rituals brings something light, and meaningful, into your world too. 📝So this week, I want to invite you into that same space. 🖋️Write something forward. Imagine what might be waiting. Take your time with it. What wishes would you tie to the rose bush? Reflect on your previous year. What would you wish for this season? (Mum would always sing Ramo as we carried out these rituals) #culture #balkan #hidirellez #ederlezi #writingprompts

This weekend I saw Kenan Doğulu perform and boy, just like that, I was back in my teenage years. Before I knew it, the memories kept unfolding… Dancing in the living room with my rag doll to Karma Chameleon. Long, hot, slightly chaotic drives to Turkey,
İbo’s New York concert playing through the speakers along with Bülent Ersoy and Zeki Müren filling the car. Pre-GCSE days soundtracked by 90s Turkish pop.
Saving up for my first trip to Our Price
a cassette by Chaka Demus & Pliers,
then my first CD by Alanis Morissette. Then came the raving years with DJ Luck & MC Neat, nights that felt like they would never end. A song I won’t name, playing quietly in the background of our first kiss with @alexsevincuk Hayde Gidelum - the only thing that would stop Eloş from crying. Ferdi Özbeğen — carrying me to warm summer nights,
by the sea, with rakı and meze. And now, 70s Turkish psychedelic rock,
gently pulling me back into the stories of @more_than_a_bundle_story It made me realise how music doesn’t just hold memories. It holds entire versions of who we’ve been. 🖋️ This week’s prompt is an invitation to return to one of yours.
Take your time with it. See what comes back. What’s one song that takes you back and where does it take you? #kenandogulu #creativewriting #writingprompts #journal #writersofinstagram

My daughters asked me how long I spent on my iPad as a kid. I thought ‘what iPad?’ Then that question stayed with me. It opened something. It became conversations. Stories. A community. It became @more_than_a_bundle_story And somewhere along the way, it became a novel… Unhemmed. It’s funny how something so small can unravel into something much bigger. ✨ What’s a simple question that stayed with you? #writersofinstagram #writerscommunity #creativewriting #creativecommunity #writers

I can remember many acts of kindness. But the one that returns to me most often is a small one. I was a teenager, at a wedding in Turkey,
the heat was unbearable.
Sweaty men dancing to Kasap havası,
my hair stuck to my face,
my tongue practically glued to the roof of my mouth. The catering had run out of water. And then, my cousin appeared,
holding a freezing cold bottle of water like it had been pulled from another world. It sounds simple and it really was.
He probably doesn’t even remember it. But I do! Of course, there have been bigger moments.
When my mum became ill, and after she passed.
When I first started @more_than_a_bundle_story project, and women stepped forward to hold space in ways I’ll never forget. But today, I keep coming back to the smaller moments. Because sometimes it’s the quiet gestures, the ones that could easily go unnoticed, that stay with us the longest. 🖋️This week’s prompt is an invitation to return to one of yours.
Take your time with it. Make it fun. See what’s still there. Whats a small moment that stayed with you? #writingprompts #chooselove #creativewriting #journalling #writersofinstagram

Stitch & Tell: Stories of Home 🪡 Join us for a special workshop organised by More Than a Bundle Story and craft-led brand ZEY! We’ll begin exploring themes of home, motherland and culture through conversation with women from the Turkish speaking diaspora who arrived in London from the 1960s. The session will then continue with a guided embroidery session, stitching the images and memories that these ideas bring to mind. No experience needed; all materials provided. Turkish tea and refreshments will be shared as we gather around a big table, sharing and creating together. We’ll be gathering on 9th of May at 14:30, on Fulbourne Road in Walthamstow E17. Get your ticket through the link in our bio - we are looking forward to creating together!
