Dancing with the Teachers | 2025
I attended Dancing with the Teachers, a student-teacher dance competition and fundraiser at Cristo Rey Brooklyn High School in March 2024 and found myself in the midst of an utterly electric, joyful, and purpose-driven community with a story to tell.
A year later, we began rolling cameras on a documentary that sets out to capture a bit of that brightness, joy, and resilience at this East Flatbush high school.
The film follows The JJAAGS, a group of dynamic and downright hilarious young women as they juggle the many pressures of junior year, redefine success in the face of systemic challenges, and give us all just a little bit more hope for the future.

Jean Duffey was one of a kind. She was vivacious, loving, a shameless flirt, gregarious to a fault, and an expert raconteur. Her stories have become legend in my family (see: setting her childhood home on fire; eating a full plate of pot brownies my uncle brought home from a party and being laid up in bed with visions of pulsating belly buttons for a week).
Anyone who’s heard me talk about my grandma knows just how special she was, and just how special she was to me. For years now, she’s called me her “career girl,” and it’s a badge I wear with great honor. She has been instrumental in instilling the confidence I need to realize my goals in life. I could call her in a crisis of confidence on any given day, and without fail, I’d end that call on a high, with no doubt in my mind that I have the brains, beauty, and emotional brawn to do anything I set my mind to.
Jean, Gram, or “gramajean” as she became known to her great grandchildren, was simultaneously salt of the earth, the embodiment of unconditional love, and a total pistol. I owe every bit of spunk I have to her.
She was full of cheeky sayings like “I want to die with mayonnaise on my lips and a smile on my face.” She didn’t quite get that mayo wish, but she did get a couple of others. She passed on June 26, 2025 after 94 full, beautiful years of life, surrounded by family.
Such a great and powerful presence has left an equally profound sense of grief, but I take comfort knowing that her legacy lives on in me — and that she’s been reunited with my grandfather after 18+ years missing him like crazy and with the dear friends with whom she shared all sorts of wild adventures (The Uncensored Diaries of Jean Duffey might be an NYT best seller yet!).
I could go on and on about her impact, her stories, her larger than life presence, and someday I just might.
But for now… rest easy, Jean Bean 🤍🤍
Diane, an aspiring actress, finds herself hired by controversial psychiatrist, Dr. Hiller, to role play as the deceased partner of one of his clients. Unequipped but desperate for work, Diane accepts the job and is immediately thrown into a therapy session with one of Hiller’s patients. However, when Diane realizes that all is not what it seems, she must decide whether to play along or finally stand up for herself.
