STRUT KIDS
part dance lab
part playground
part disco
4 schools
10 lunchtime clubs per school
90+ kids
250+ audience
300+ ribbons given away
and… Dougie, one dedicated mascot designed by the children of Rutherglen
we made dances out of:
playground handshakes as ritual
spinning till we nearly fall
skipping ropes as portals
ribbons like weather
kids → wolves → trees → lift → wolves →village
face to face with audience
28 bodies wriggling at once
somehow…
everyone gets a solo
everyone gets held by the group
and it all kind of makes sense in the end
main takeaway:
kids = elite choreographers
teachers = saints
holding the edge of it all
Thank yous❤️
To dance facilitator extraordinaire Alex Tsiapi— five years working together and still magic .
For jumping fully into the chaos, testing every idea, and shaping the work so it feels right in the body before we even bring it to the kids. Couldn’t do this without you @alexandratsiapi
To Producers Feral for securing funding and making it happen again after our first prototype in 2023 @feralartprojects
To Dav, our tech wizard — turning school halls into full-blown dance Haciendas
To Libby, Tami and Laurie -STRUT OG legends.
To Gabriel, Carmen and Holly for stepping in and holding space with us @carm_ola@shok.src

This International Children’s Day we want to celebrate the achievements of all the pupils currently taking part in STRUT Kids. A 10 week programme of expressive dance and drawing workshops in 2 schools in Govanhill and Battlefield (Glasgow) led by artists Bex Anson and Alexandra Tsiapi with guest breakdance tutor Gabriele Bruzzese.
Lead artist Bex Anson wrote this brilliant article for Govanhill Go! Magazine with images by Syeda Sadaf Anwar that captured our recent celebration event with P6 pupils.
“We danced with ribbons to different atmospheres of sound and found our inner wildness. We had dance battles. We shared ideas, performed tiny – but mighty – solos, and asked each other ‘how did that movement make you feel? What did you see? What did it remind of?"

STRUT! One Year Ago! 🕺✨
Can you believe it’s been a year since STRUT lit up the night in Port Glasgow? 💡
This wasn’t your average parade— five local dancers were selected to showcase their personal choreographies reflecting the soul and energy of Inverclyde. We loved the mix of styles, from Pop and Lyrical to Northern Soul and Majorette!
Huge thanks to our talented performers who rocked the pavement: Aaron, Elaine, Lauren, Astyn, Nadia, and Sarah with Rockin Rob on the mic! And a massive thank you to our community panel, the STRUT chorus, our team and @galoshansfest for making it happen.
We’re ready to dance again! This time during the day for FLOCK!

📣 Galoshans Festival 2025: Feral Takeover📣
From STRUT to FLOCK
After bringing STRUT to the streets of Inverclyde last year , artist Bex Anson returns to Galoshans Festival with her new performance FLOCK. Once again, she invites audiences to take part, through movement, dance and chalk drawing, creating a temporary artwork inspired by bird murmuration's outside of Port Glasgow Library
🕊️ How to Get Involved
Join us to draw and dance with your imagination alongside a ballet dancer! Using giant chalk, you’ll help create a visual poem that unfolds across the library forecourt — celebrating birds, movement, and community.
1) FLOCK Workshop (12:00 – 1:00 PM):
A playful session of movement, words, and mark-making exploring ideas about birds and togetherness.
2) Performance (1:10 – 1:30 PM):
Step into the artwork — become part of the flock and help bring the visual poem to life in the streets of Port Glasgow.
👉 To take part: register via the link in our bio
Prefer to watch?
The performance is free and no booking is required.

🎬Do Keep your eyes peeled for our after movies!
“A working class area, turning off their TVs and tumbling out their flats and houses to see some dance. And some dance that was being performed by a group of their own. When it was freezing. As a community art piece, it was inspired and ultimately quite inspirational.” Fringe Review
A special thanks to our key partners and supporters including Lanternhouse/Cumbernauld Theatre, Lyra, City Moves, Dance Live, Galoshans Festival,
RIG Arts and Clifftop Projects, our community judges, chaperones and the MHz team.

🤸Last week STRUT illuminated the streets of West Dunbartonshire; with the communities of Faifley in Clydebank and Dumbarton coming out in force to cheer on our local dance heroes!
Audiences experienced Wiktoria’s unique brand of hip hop fusion, dazzling funk and soul from Sal, Izzy’s ethereal ballet moves, dreamy contemporary dance from Kyle and feisty Irish dance from Tegan. Our local MC Big Gal introduced our dancers with lots of banter and laughs along the way.
Thanks to everyone in West Dunbartonshire who supported us including our hosts Clifftop Projects and our rehearsal venue Riverside Church in Dumbarton.
Here’s a snapshot of some of the audience feedback on the night:
🔥“Fantastic! So great to see different ages and styles of dance. Dancers were fab, light work and projection also amazing and quite surreal in our wee toon.”
💕“It was really entertaining and great to see something different happening on the High Street.”
🎉“Fun, family orientated, exciting.”

✨ Introducing STRUT West Dunbartonshire Dancer – IZZY✨
Izzy (25) likes to fuse ballet and contemporary techniques in their movement style and while improvising. They grew up and first learned to dance in West Dumbartonshire before moving to London and dancing there. Izzy says: “I am really happy to be performing for Strut and for the community where it all started for me. Dancing means a lot to me and professional or not I believe it’s a wonderful way to connect with yourself and the world around you.”

✨ Introducing STRUT West Dunbartonshire Dancer – SALAHDINE ✨
Salahdine « Salah or Sal for short » is 67 years old. He was raised in a house where his parents and 10 brothers and sisters also danced. He lived in London (where he danced in nightclubs) before he moved to Dumbarton in 1981. Since then he has always danced when out with friends or at weddings etc. He is married and has two grown-up children.
Sal says: “I dance to a wide variety of music, and my preferred music to dance to is funk and soul. By joining STRUT, I intended to push myself out of my comfort zone as it is my first performance, I am a bit nervous about it but also looking forward to it.”
