My new community dance project explores how humans and birds flock, perch, and congregate in shared city spaces. Argyle Street’s pigeons have been brill for my initial research – so friendly, and what great movers. It’s still early days, but I’m keen to find other favourite pigeon spots around Glasgow. Where are your go-to flocks? I’m also excited to meet other fans of our feathered neighbours. Drop me a message 🙂 Costume & Camera: SaeHee Simmons. Produced by Feral. Music by pigeon fanatic Laurie Spiegel

Lost Species Day. In honour of the Passenger Pigeons: wild, forest-dwelling nomads that depended on living in hyper-mega flocks for their existence. Once the world’s most abundant birds in the 1800s, they say they would darken the sky for hours or days as they flew overhead. As major forest ecologists, they seeded beech nuts and acorns. 🩶To Martha, the last known of the species, who died alone in a zoo in 1914. @lostspeciesday Here’s me hanging with a flock of Rock Doves on Argyle Street, once domesticated birds that have become feral. 📸 + costume by Saehee Simmons @saeheesimmons_design

STRUT KIDS part dance lab part playground part disco 4 schools 10 lunchtime clubs per school 90+ kids 250+ audience 300+ ribbons given away and… Dougie, one dedicated mascot designed by the children of Rutherglen we made dances out of: playground handshakes as ritual spinning till we nearly fall skipping ropes as portals ribbons like weather kids → wolves → trees → lift → wolves →village face to face with audience 28 bodies wriggling at once somehow… everyone gets a solo everyone gets held by the group and it all kind of makes sense in the end main takeaway: kids = elite choreographers teachers = saints holding the edge of it all Thank yous❤️ To dance facilitator extraordinaire Alex Tsiapi— five years working together and still magic . For jumping fully into the chaos, testing every idea, and shaping the work so it feels right in the body before we even bring it to the kids. Couldn’t do this without you @alexandratsiapi To Producers Feral for securing funding and making it happen again after our first prototype in 2023 @feralartprojects To Dav, our tech wizard — turning school halls into full-blown dance Haciendas To Libby, Tami and Laurie -STRUT OG legends. To Gabriel, Carmen and Holly for stepping in and holding space with us @carm_ola @shok.src To Katherine for capturing the moments @kathclick STRUT Kids is supported by YouthLink Scotland, Creative Scotland’s Open Fund and Rutherglen 900. Raydale and Judd, I’ve been thinking a lot about your agit prop theatre, The Secret Agent. Back then we were just saying yes to everything. I took a job at Sloans so we could use the ballroom for the finale. Did shit club decor at the Classic Grand so we could get access to the derelict car park next to Sub Club. We met upstairs in Raydale’s GFM studio, above the old Modern Institute beers, biscuits, smokes, listening hard as Conrad got pulled apart and put back together. A man trying to blow up time itself, staged through the back alleys of Glasgow city centre. We had no idea what was coming. Every week more appeared, music being scored, sets growing, cardboard heads, voices recorded onto cassette tapes, a giant puppet of poor wee Stevie. We needed more bodies, so I found them: friends, stoners, familiar faces who said yes. It all just ran and the feeling that we had to make it. Then there was that afternoon, painting BAD WORLD FOR POOR PEOPLE up garnet hill. Ladders, paint, overalls, then getting chased by the cops. Proper running.. I loved you guys for rhis,The work didn’t stop when the performance ended, the city became part of it. The stickers, graffiti, posters, music with @mercuro__chrome We rinsed the public/private Gi2008 theme 😅me and Krisdy turning the lowsalt gallery into a weird corporate gallery for Andrew & Iain kettles inflatable sculptures popping up about town. Always lots of bodies, collageing, make without asking in public Nice one @brianbeadie for uncovering the insane poster by Judd Pics by Nelly 🖤 @nellyd23 lowsalt was a good time @krisdyshindler xx

This International Children’s Day we want to celebrate the achievements of all the pupils currently taking part in STRUT Kids.  A 10 week programme of expressive dance and drawing workshops in 2 schools in Govanhill and Battlefield (Glasgow) led by artists Bex Anson and Alexandra Tsiapi with guest breakdance tutor Gabriele Bruzzese. Lead artist Bex Anson wrote this brilliant article for Govanhill Go! Magazine with images by Syeda Sadaf Anwar that captured our recent celebration event with P6 pupils. “We danced with ribbons to different atmospheres of sound and found our inner wildness. We had dance battles. We shared ideas, performed tiny – but mighty – solos, and asked each other ‘how did that movement make you feel? What did you see? What did it remind of?" Full article at link in bio. STRUT Kids by MHz, produced by Feral and funded by Youth Arts Open Fund via YouthLink Scotland, and Creative Scotland. Photos by Katherine Anne Rose

FLOCK 🌪️ “I liked the calmness and all moving together.” — Konrad (aged 5) “I can’t quite explain how easy it felt to move with everyone, knowing we wouldn’t get lost because we could rely on each other for guidance and flow.” — Raquel Last weekend, we finally piloted our first ever FLOCK dance happening! After some rescheduling thanks to Storm Floria and Storm Amy, we found a perfect home: The Deep End, a community space with an outdoor yard and a car ramp roof (very Ballardian! & perfectly suited for Glasgow outdoor arts 😅). This was our first time experimenting with something so spontaneous—strangers who met just an hour before. Special TY’s to our participants who dived in during a gap in the storm to take part—they were the most graceful ensemble! 💫Gemma, Carman, Alex, Ekin, Nina, Raquel, Jess, Roz, Anne, Jenny, Mark, Siobhan, Sarah, Georgia, Konrad, Aislinn, Kat, and the amazing kiddies who joined us! ✨💫 Next up: outside Port Glasgow Library 🙂📚 @galoshansfest 18/10 FLOCK Team: Artist - Bex Anson Designer - Saehee Simmons @saeheesimmons_design Flock Dancer – Izzy Zych-Watson @izzyzych Composer - Finn O’Hare Dramaturg - Lou Cope @lou.cope.92 Producer - Feral (Jill Smith & Kathryn Boyle) @feralartprojects Filming - Conor McGhie @konaerobonaero Photos - Katherine Anna Rose @kathclick Press - Storytelling Pr @storytelling.pr Special thanks to Simone, Stevie, and Jeong at The Deep End, Dav for techie help, and Frida Sue for the bird whispering.
