Music, rhythm, and language are intertwined from the start of our lives. The ABCs? That's music and rhythm!
Mega Ran is both a teacher and a musician, so music education is truly a part of his soul. In honor of Music In Our Schools Month, the GRAMMY-nominated artist shares how music education not only changes his life, but also changes the lives of the kids he teaches.

‘Merica. There’s something unintentionally hilarious about growing up with a name like “Raheem,” where people will confidently pronounce “Schwarzenegger” and every Pokémon, but look at your name like 🤪😒😳😥😐😑🙄😬😵💫
You spend your whole life hearing remixes of your identity… Ra-ham… Rakeem.. somehow even Ryan. So you write a song about difficult names as a way to laugh through the frustration. A little humor, a little pain, a little “dang just try,” lol
Then life pulls the ultimate plot twist: you finally go to Morocco and realize your name isn’t the “complicated” one at all. In fact, it’s probably one of the easiest names in the room.
That’s the funny thing about cultural perspective. in Morocco and all across Africa, names carry rhythm, lineage, history… even poetry.
I play a name game every show, and have heard some NAMES, believe me. I always try. And sometimes fail. Cause that’s what I would want people to do with me.
I realized the issue was never pronunciation. It’s not a hard name. it was unfamiliarity disguised as inconvenience.
And that’s what gives “That’s Okay” a deeper meaning now. Originally, the song might’ve felt like a defense mechanism in a nice way.. But after seeing another part of the world, it transforms into something warmer and bigger: a reminder that there’s NOTHING WRONG with your name, your culture, or your identity. Sometimes you’re just standing in a place that hasn’t learned the rhythm of it yet.
I’ve been ahead of my time before, it’s cool.
So to that I say:
tl;dr: That’s Okay.
💙
Love,
Raheem

Unclassifiable.
Underrated.
Undeniable.
Dropped a 5️⃣0️⃣ piece. 50 million thanks!!!!!!
What makes this milestone special is that it happened without compromising who I am. I never had to stop being weird. I never had to stop talking about the things I loved. I never had to pretend to be somebody else to belong in this space. That’s powerful. And I hope it reminds other independent artists that there is room for authenticity in this world.
Thank you and see you at the next 50!

I look in the mirror like “I love that guy.” True story.
This song is from the GRAMMY-NOMINATED album “Buddys Magic Tree House,” and rapping it in Oujda hit different.
It features 123 Andrès and horns from @joezieja :)
#Oujda is a major, historic city in northeastern Morocco, acting as the capital of the Oriental region and a vital trade hub near the Algerian border. Known as a “City of Mosques” and for its authentic, non-touristy vibe, it features a vibrant, traditional medina, French colonial architecture, and unique regional cuisine.
