Audiences are already engaged with shows, franchises, merchandise, and experiences from brands that include LGBTQ characters in their programming. In fact, about 84 million Americans say they’re more likely to watch a show if at least one character is LGBTQ.
These outstanding shows (and more) prove that audience demand creates cultural buzz and drives viewers, retention, and revenue while telling nuanced and diverse queer stories.

This week, our GLAAD Media Institute team presented the findings of our annual Where We Are on TV Report at @vidiots in Los Angeles.
GLAAD’s Where We Are On TV report not only propels national conversations about LGBTQ representation, but informs GLAAD’s own advocacy within the television industry. GLAAD uses this yearly data to create a clearer picture of the stories and images being presented by television networks, and to work alongside the networks and content creators to tell fair, accurate, and inclusive LGBTQ stories on screen.

happy #bivisibilityday! it took me a long ass time to realize I was bi and finally come out later in college - mostly because of how pop culture & media when I was growing up either entirely erased bi people, made us into a punch line, or otherwise invalidated our existence. It is truly a great joy and pride in my life that part of my job now is working with entertainment to tell our full stories in a way that my teenage self wishes she had. #biweek 💖💜💙🏳️🌈
happy #biweek #bivisibilityday everyone. i wanted to run through some important things to know about the bi community in my favorite format: presentation memes. Swipe ➡️ #themoreyouknow 🏳️🌈💖💜💙

“we’re here, we’re queer, we’re filled with existential fear” is a Mood. i definitely forgot to post the pictures from my second #interactiveintroverts show last year, so now seems like a good time! congrats to dan on his coming out video this week. sharing his story with such openness and vulnerability about internalized homophobia, labels, and ultimately finding a community really does and will continue to make a difference. 🖤🖤🖤🏳️🌈
