While visiting Toronto back in January, I had the opportunity to take @m_a_n_a_l_o_t 's Weaving Philippine Textiles Workshop and it was so much fun! I love opportunities like this to learn more about my culture through art. Timothy's presentation on textiles from different regions of the Philippines was deeply informative. The workshop was so engaging and it was cool to see other students' creations inspired by Philippine texture. I can't wait to take this new knowledge and somehow apply it to broom making! If you're in Toronto, check out his upcoming workshop on Dying Philippine Textiles hosted at @textile_studio !

Come join me at @burkemuseum for one last moment of learning and community before you ring in the New Year! I'll be hanging out at Burke's artist studio demonstrating broom making on Dec 31. Stop by and chat with me as I make hand brooms inspired by Filipino culture while using materials grown in North America as well as combining techniques used in traditional North American brooms and techniques used in Asian brooms. Watch while I explore Ilocano weaving patterns (inabel) on broom handles. Or make an Asian inspired mini broom in the artist studio with me to take home! Stop by anytime between 10am to 2pm! Mini broom workshops will be first come, first serve, while supplies last. No set time! Just stop by and I'll show you how to make one in 15-20 minutes! See you there!

Had so much fun using our memories and experiences in the Philippines as inspiration to create something on canvas using bright colors and shapes with the guidance of artist @kita.licious . She led an art workshop hosted at @stg_ece Kerry Hall for Bayanihan Fest in partnership with @filipinocommunityofseattle . It was great to connect with community members and be in a space where creativity can be so freely expressed and embraced. Bayanihan Fest continues on Oct 25. Check out @stg_ece for more info about dance workshops, art market, and performances as we continue to celebrate Filipino American History Month!

As summer comes to a close, it's time to create a sacred space in our home for cozy fall vibes. So let's sweep away any energetic clutter that no longer serves us in this moment, set our intentions, and make way for positivity and calm energy. What rituals do you use your broom for? Walis (broom in Tagalog): Brush: African grass Handle: In Filipino tattoos, the crab is a symbol of guidance, protection, and the ancestors journey. It signifies resilience, strength, and connection to spirit. Twine: vegan suede Come by tomorrow Sep 13 and hang out with me at the @beaconartsseattle street fair. @filipinocommunityofseattle will be there representing with art, music, Filipino food, and education! πŸ“S Roberto Maestas Festival St, Beacon Hill
