Landon Caldwell - Strategic Light
Cassette / Digital

How do you share your glow? What circles in the gravity of your existence?
Focus the binoculars, fuzzy plein-air. Squint and the world reveals itself an assemblage.
@landonscaldwell returns as your guide through moments of pulsing and buzzing utopia, scattered percussion, and organ drones from deep within the church of memory. Like nine deep breaths in a world of distraction, find solace and intention in the improvisational compositions herein. Folks, here is Strategic Light.

Excited to share this new, in-depth interview with Landon Caldwell that's up on Foxy Digitalis today. We talked about his excellent new album "Strategic Light," early sound memories (throwing rocks at a neighbor's gutter, the ringing silence of fresh drywall), and how sound works as a shortcut to the psychic spaces at the core of memory. There's something special about the sonic world he's built here. Nine deep breaths in a world of distraction.
"Strategic Light" is out Friday, but check out an exclusive stream of the full album in this interview at Foxy Digitalis. You know where to find it.

Indianapolis composer, musician, instrument maker and artist Rob Funkhouser returns to Medium Sound with Respiratory Cycle, containing two new, immersive long-form suites in the form of EXHALE and INHALE. The EXHALE side collects a mesmerizing suite of music composed by @funkoftherob and performed by Charissa Garrigus, Brenna Green, Jesse Wittman, Maya Nojiri Sutherland, Gavin Waggoner and the Sound Ecologies Chamber Orchestra; with Funkhouser himself occasionally sitting on on Gravity Harp and Glass Organ. EXHALE’s 6 pieces open up vast and seemingly endless sonic plains for the ears to explore. New aural zones, at first tucked away but slowly revealed on each new listen.
The INHALE side is made up of 8 hypnotic parts performed by Funkhouser, showcasing new electronic, aural zones; at first tucked away but slowly revealed on each new listen. Bound together with the more acoustically-inclined pieces of the INHALE side, Respiratory Cycle reveals Funkhouser at possibly his widest sonic scope yet. Plant your ears in these vast worlds of sound..

Caldwell/Tester - ‘Homes’
LP + digital
•
Very excited to drop our 50th release and first LP on Medium Sound in the shape of ‘Homes’, courtesy of MEDS heads @mark_tester and @landonscaldwell
Like an easy aural breeze blowing softly from the speakers, Caldwell/Tester return with ‘Homes’, the Indianapolis duo’s proper full-length follow up to 2020’s ‘Little Flower’.
For this outing, Landon Caldwell and Mark Tester have conjured up a patient and fanciful world that seamlessly blends the organic with the electronic. Brief visions of piano, flute, clarinet and trumpet provide sparse passages amongst often barely-there sequences, which whimsically sputter melodies amongst serene synthesized pastures. Thoughtful, intuitive sound gestures and auditory broadcasts from the musical subconsciousness encompass a warm embrace of the utopian elements of the natural world. In other moments, the vibe becomes more wistful, stark, and sometimes ominous, suggesting a direct gaze at the world outside from these oblique, and sometimes imagined, inner sonic plains.
