It gets pretty cold here! 🥶 We had a week or so here this past winter when temps hovered around -30F to -40F temps for about a week. It’s not unheard of but usually we stay above -30F for typical extreme lows. When it gets that cold outside it can cause problems with septic systems. The lack of meaningful snow depth contributes to the problem as well. When clear skies persist the sun’s rays reflect off the south side of our house. This can melt the snow if there’s not a solid base on the ground. The septic tank and drain field directly behind the house, lack of and melting of snow cover contributes because the snow acts as a natural insulator. Another contributor to the freeze is our high efficiency gas appliances. The condensate water coming from the boiler & furnace contains no bacteria (a source of heat), it’s basically demineralized water (non potable). On a very cold day our heating system can easily be draining 10-15 gallons of condensate water down the drain. This dilutes the contained energy/heat already stored in the septic tank (bacteria from waste generates heat which is beneficial to keeping the tank above freezing temps). Mine wasn’t the only one, I helped a handful of customers with the same problem in and around this time. It’s just another thing that we deal with in cold climates. Would you live in a place that is cold enough to freeze a septic system? Let me know in the comments ✌🏼

@mechanicalhub gives a tour of his 1,800-square-foot shop, showing how he stays organized as a solo contractor. Using systems like Levrack shelving, Milwaukee Tool Packout storage, and Husky Tools workstations, Eric breaks down how he manages tools, pipe storage, materials, and deliveries while keeping the shop efficient and clutter-free. Using the sun to heat water isn’t new but it’s cool af if you ask me. It’s like having a boiler on your roof, only hotter. We were down in Houston at @grundfosinstallers_us_ca facility to learn about some new products coming (I can’t talk about those yet) The building is LEED Platinum (first project to achieve in Texas at the time of construction), we were able to see the mechanical systems which is always cool. Keep your eyes and ears open for an announcement about the new products coming ahead of the upcoming fall heating season. #hvac #plumbing #grundfospumps

Installing radiant tubing has been a favorite of mine for years. A year or two ago I started using the @malcotools tubing uncoiler, it’s great for small and large rolls (up to 1K ft). Here’s a look at the pre-fab manifolds installed before concrete too. If you are just finding this account for the first time please give me a follow. I share new products for plumbing, hvac. I also post videos from industry events, my job sites here in MN and more 👍🏼 #auneplumbing #hvac #hydronicheating
