Are y’all ready for the Next Level? 👾🎮🕹️
It’s a new look, but the same great taste. I’m so excited to announce the continuation of Gaymer Night at @oilcansatx with an all new name and the addition of TWO new co-hosts on a rotating schedule @iggy.bank and @embry0fficially . And as always @gatorrgorr is still our resident bartender. Both of these queens have been regulars at the previous iteration of Gaymer Night and I’m so happy to have them on board for the next chapter. We’re still playing Mario Kart, we’re still playing Smash, and we’re adding a few new games on a rotating basis, more theme parties, tabletop, card, and board games rolling out in future shows. The tournaments will not be returning for the foreseeable future due to certain limitations but never say never.
And come out THIS THURSDAY for Iggy’s first night with me and also my BIRTHDAY because I’m spending it with my gay and gaymer family. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Going into this year, I want to highlight a little bit of trans history by talking about one of the more underrepresented members of queer liberation: Lou Sullivan.
Lou Sullivan was a gay trans activist born in 1951 in Milwaukee who began socially transitioning in the early 70s. Despite having a supportive family, his sexuality in conflict with his gender caused him to oscillate in and out of the closet for a number of years before fully coming out for good in 1979. He was denied gender affirming care because of his sexuality until 1980. In the 80s he founded FTM International, an organization for trans men that persists till this day. In 1991, like many gay men, he died of AIDS after being diagnosed in 1986. On his diagnosis, Lou said “I took a certain pleasure informing the gender care clinic that even though their program wouldn’t let me live as a Gay man, it looks like I’m going to die as one.” He would be 72 on June 16th.
There’s a misconception that all trans people started off as gender non-conforming gay people, and the idea of gay trans people is a new one or a trend. I find a lot of comfort in Lou’s story because it mirrors my own, and that of many other gay trans people. And it’s important that we remember him this pride month, lest we forget the whole of where we came from.
Happy pride 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️ Now go be loud and unapologetic for those who can’t. It’s what Lou would’ve wanted.

It’s a weird time to be a lapsed Catholic.
I was born and raised in the Church. Got my head dunked in water as a baby, dressed up as a little bride for First Communion, and went to Catholic School for 6 years. I loved being Catholic for most of my childhood. I loved RE and learning the history, I carried around a Bible everywhere til I was 9, sang in the choir until I was 14, and my favorite teacher was a Dominican Sister. I love that that school brought me my best friend of 21 years. But I also hated being Catholic. I hated going to Mass twice a week bc the other moms at school gossiped about mine until we started going to a church they went to, I hated my itchy uniform, and the things my teachers would tell me I had to believe. I hated that even when I won arguments, I still lost, bc they weren’t in line with doctrine. I hated the control and the guilt organized religion brought me. 6 years of bullying and control made me switch to public school and never step foot in a Church willingly again. 15 years on, living a life that goes against what I was taught, I’ve never felt more in line with the only part that ever mattered. Your first duty is service to others.
It’s a weird time being a lapsed Catholic. The president is beefing with the Pope for saying genocide is bad. American Catholics don’t understand that voting with the side of the oppressors is fundamentally against doctrine bc the first thing we learn is children is to live in service of others. We’re being told once again that we’re not real Christians bc Catholics are always the first complicit group Christian nationalists will turn on & people are surprised bc they never bothered to learn. They never bothered to ask questions or remember that Catholics have spent more time as the bad guys than the good guys. Thank you for your help in the subjugation of your flock (remember many of the immigrants being detained every day come from Catholic countries), now you can go down with the ship. A good lesson with a horrific legacy of the religion of which I spent years trying to reconcile my love with my hate.
I have so many more thoughts but tonight is catharsis for the formerly religious. Doors 9:30
