I could have written much more at each step of his golf swing. Of course this is what I have done for 50 years. When I go to a PGA Tour event I’m just not hanging around. I’m talking to other teachers and I’m observing what the players are working on. I also do videotaping myself. There are always outliers in some aspects of the swing. But Chris is doing the most important. Most juniors hit balls way too fast. So sometimes I give them five balls to hit in one minute. Very tough for eight-year-olds to do this. For this contest, they had to hit five balls in exactly 1 minute. I figured there was no way they would come close, but they both came within one second??? I get so tired of “swing your own swing”! Go to any range in the world and watch the swings of amateurs. Then tell me they don’t need good position instruction. That instruction would likely begin with stance, alignments, grip. All are positions. Would you leave a 18 handicap golfer with a wide open clubface who is hitting weak slices to right field. Let me know how swinging his own swing is working out? My job and the job of all top golf teachers is to get golfers better. Jon McLean wanted to build a putting trading aid that had your golf ball start on the ground. It’s also important that this one requires an 11 inch start through the tees. You can move this training aid from place to place on the green easily. Brooks Koepka used this one when he finished 4th in the US Open and got his PGA Tour card. What is important in putting. Well, several keys. But one is your ability to start the ball on your intended line. The most important person in my life in the golf business was Carl Welty who is the greatest researcher ever. Carl showed me how to do research and we worked together for almost 50 years. I taught my teachers and assistants the Carl method for researching the golf swing. We have had a spectacular day in NYC. It looks clean and vibrant. My golf school will be doing the teaching at 5 iron in Coral Gables. It should be opening at the end of May. It’s a beautiful location and also has 10 bowling lanes—plus 14 Trackman Simulator hitting bays.
