This week I had the honor of presenting about my work and research driven artistic practice a Lunch & Learn event put on by Austin Peay’s Office of Student Research and Innovation. My wonderful colleague Barry Jones got a great picture of me pointing at an Incomplete and Open Cube. He says I make strange gestures when I talk. I say it’s the sculpture that makes me throw shapes. Thanks to Dr. Frank Ferdik for the invitation to share my work with students across the university.

_My Side of the Mountain_ studio install Plastic, camera, monitor, video, motion tracking program Named for the YA novel that was popular in the 1980s in which a teenager lives a survivalist lifestyle on his family’s land and befriends a falcon, this work looks at the intersection between survivalism and surveillance. In the ideal setup, the computer could be hidden or placed on the ground (no plastic bins!). There is only one plug needed. The bird camera eye needs to face an area with pedestrian traffic to pick up the tracking and place it into the forest video.

My workplace for the morning! Thanks so much to Sam’s Sports Grill at Blue Turtle Bay, a local Old Hickory business, for giving me permission and time to come in and scan their coyote for a project I am working on. It was a great model, held perfectly still while I scanned it with a couple of different programs and tools. Support local businesses who support local artists!

Decoy Flock Egregore Video sculptures Plastic, led screens, continuously looping video, silent See the work through January 31st at Radar in Wedgewood Houston, Nashville, TN. The seagull is a bird of duality. It is a symbol of the romance of the shore, soaring on the ocean breezes, and it is also the bird of parking lots, fighting over empty chip bags. In the video component of this work, the bird character faces that dual nature, in location, and more broadly; organic versus inorganic, nature and hardscape, real and unreal.
