📊 Data makes a difference.
Current data collection systems, largely geared towards urban populations, miss the unique challenges and needs of rural communities across Canada - impacting policy, decision-making, and access to critical resources.
On #WorldHealthDay, read how Dr. Leith Deacon and the University of Guelph (@uofguelph ) are working to highlight rural realities through the HEAR Initiative, a longitudinal, community-engaged research platform designed to address persistent data gaps affecting rural and other underserved communities, to improve health and well-being outcomes.
#GranteeStory: In 2024, 17 First Nations in British Columbia forged an agreement with the provincial and federal government to co-govern 10 million hectares of marine habitat in the Great Bear Sea - a vast marine corridor from northern Vancouver Island to the Alaska border - in favour of reasserting Indigenous stewardship of land and waters, protecting biodiversity, and advancing coastal prosperity.
Two years later, read how Nations, with support from our grantee, @natureunitedcanada , are charting a new era for Indigenous-led conservation in Canada.

Last week, upper-year McCall MacBain Scholars (@mccallmacbainscholars ) from McGill University (@mcgillu ) were hosted by participants of the Dalhousie Student Leadership Academy (@dalhousieu ) during their field trip to Halifax / Kjipuktuk.
Keynote speakers Madison Hughes (2024 McCall MacBain Scholar) and Andi Fabien (2025 McCall MacBain Dalhousie Leadership Academy Scholar) shared powerful reflections on the role of scholarship communities in shaping their purpose and approach to impact-driven leadership.
Exchanges such as this allow our diverse community of scholarship recipients across programs and geographies connect over shared values and learn from one another.
The McCall MacBain Scholarship at McGill is the Foundation’s flagship leadership-based scholarship program for post-graduate students, while the McCall MacBain – Dalhousie Leadership Academy scholarships help student leaders deepen their skills and potential to effect positive change.
In 2025, we had the pleasure of supporting exceptional young people and organizations to advance leadership, and contribute to a healthier planet and healthier communities.
Thank you for all that you made possible. ✨
