Mark your calendars for Friday, June 19 at 6:00 PM for the 2nd annual Juneteenth with Jon Boogz (@jonboogz ). ✨ Boogz is an Emmy Award-winning choreographer, movement artist, actor, writer, and director whose work continues to push the boundaries of storytelling through dance and film. Joining him are special guests Dr. Alfiee Breland-Noble (@dralfiee ) and Mohsin Mohi Ud Din (@allplacesfromhere ). Dr. Alfiee brings together science, compassion, and cultural insight to reshape conversations around emotional wellness. Mohi Ud Din is a multidisciplinary artist, community builder, and founder of the global storytelling nonprofit MeWe International @meweinternational . The evening begins at Center Stage Theater and continues with a reception at the Museum of Contemporary Art Santa Barbara / the Arts Terrace at Paseo Nuevo. Tickets are available through Center Stage Theater (QR code on flyer). All proceeds directly support the artists and their impactful work. Stone Bodies / Cuerpos de Piedra — Video Performance Premiere Join us for the premiere of Stone Bodies / Cuerpos de Piedra, a video performance by María Adela Díaz at the Museum of Contemporary Art Santa Barbara. 🗓️ Saturday, May 16 🕰️ 3–5 PM A collective action of endurance and care, Stone Bodies brings together 13 women in the creation and activation of a 1,500-piece ceramic chain—carrying 500 pounds of shared weight. The work speaks to migration, interdependence, and the often-invisible labor of women, transforming the body into a site of resistance, memory, and belonging. Presented as a video installation with sound. For his residency at the Museum of Contemporary Art @mcasantabarbara Santa Barbara, San Antonio artist CRUZ ORTIZ @cruzortizart used plein air and portrait painting to document social history in and around Santa Barbara. He painted at Leadbetter Beach, the Douglas Family Preserve, and a spectacular private garden of succulents, aloes, and cacti on the Riviera that became one of his key subjects. “I often think about painting in the Barbie [Santa Barbara]—especially when I’m painting in plein air,” he says. “The first thing I noticed was how clean and blue the light is there.” Read more in our Home + Garden special issue and online at sbmag.com Photographs @michael_haber @aloes.in.wonderland

Creative Kinship I think that's what we are. We get asked every month. It's hard because it's more than a party but less than professional. I connected with people on Music of my childhood, complained about AI, geeked on Advocacy & Vandalism, got Sausage jerkey from Germany & a mini Huarache from Guadalajara, brainstormed scaling a viral glass butterfly business, so many intros & catch up convos.
