@suffsmusical will close on Broadway this week. I am still learning from this process, from this history, from everyone I collaborated with and from who I am because of this time. What I love about the creative process is that I am always confident that I can overcome any obstacle. I don’t have that confidence in real life, but I’m always striving for it, and that might be all the confidence I need. I love this show and all the people it took to make it. • Swipe to see some of the images from my choreo mood board. I approached this movement by trying to expose the fire that was burning in these women, the storms within that they had to contain. If they could have truly unleashed their rage, passion and power, what would it have looked like physically? Always leading from our center (thank you Martha Graham) and always pressing forward with energy that extended way past the finger tips. What did our stillness mean and what does your spine and your chest do when walking head on into danger and pain. I loved asking these questions, I loved the research and I’m proud what we all found. Yesterday I premiered “Do Not Go Gentle” on @parsonsdance . At @thejoycetheater until May 10th!! Inspired by the Dylan Thomas poem “Do not go gentle into that good night” (🗣️shout out to Interstellar) and Carl Sagan’s “The Pale Blue Dot” text. Inspired by the fact that we are all literal miracles…star dust, on a rock that just so happened to form in the perfect distance from the SUN for human life to exist 🤯🤓… and we get this blip of time to be here, and everyone you get to love also exists at the same time as you?! GOD, right?! Or whatever it is to you… you can’t deny that this is shit is beautiful, heartbreaking and so very humbling. This work is essentially about our need for each other, survival and persistence. Going out swinging! • Parsons was my first dance company ever and while it wasn’t an easy time for me, it was transformative and necessary! To the current dancers in the company. You generous, marvelous beauties. Y’all are GLADIATORS! Deserving of standing ovations far and wide. Thank you for diving into this ballet with me, for being game and pushing yourselves the way that you do. This weekend the beautiful company of @picnic.the.musical took its final bow at @greenwich_house ! Congratulations friends! I feel a little spookier and a little more Australian after this one. They say the vibe of the room is the vibe of the show… so yea… I think we unlocked (or locked into) the whole young people finding, joy, freedom and community in each other vibes of the musical Hair. I directed and choreographed this time around and doing both is sooo much 🙃. But I can do hard things! We closed yesterday and I’m so ridiculously proud of this cast, designers and crew. There were challenges, learning, and growth!
