Revisiting “The Heavy Metals Lab” from 2014, a floating laboratory for scientific research, arts engagement, and remediation of the Derwent Estuary’s heavy metal legacy. We designed the lab at the invitation of @monamuseum and @kirshakaechele (and @universityoftasmania ). Unfortunately it did not go ahead. Safe to say that it would have been an incredible addition to @monamuseum .

Our Canberra project Hotham House has just received Special Mention at the @architizer A+ Awards, and was the Residential Winner in the 2025 ACT Institute of Architects Awards. This project reworked the original red brick residence by flanking it with two new pavilions, linked by glazed corridors that frame views of the garden. Hotham House considers the past, present and future of the home. Here, our team demonstrate the importance of responding to - rather than erasing - the cultural and architectural fabric of Australia’s Capital city. We love working in Canberra! At Thornbury House, @maynardarchitect and the team at @austinmaynardarchitects opted for real hand laid brick. A classic, robust material that is becoming increasingly rare in contemporary apartment buildings. . . . #thornbury #thornburyhouse #thornburyhouseAMA

Designing Thornbury House Part 4: Sustainability at the Start A well designed home that maximises natural resources in the design stage, means that you don’t have to rely on (expensive, energy hungry) mechanical systems to be comfortable in your home. So, how has Thornbury House considered natural light, temperature and ventilation? What are the BESS and NatHERS stats? Here, @maynardarchitect takes us through the details of how he and the team at @austinmaynardarchitects approach sustainability at Thornbury House - or as they like to call it - wellbeing. Tsuruoka House by Kiyoaki Takeda Architects, 2021. @kiyoakitakeda Vaulted concrete slabs hold deep soil troughs capable of growing shrubs and small trees across every level. Over time, birds will seed unplanned species. Eventually, the building disappears beneath a small urban forest. @maynardarchitect @kevinhui_archimarathon #archimarathon #tokyoarchitecture #biophilic #sustainabledesign #tokyo

Pastoor van Ars Church in The Hague, Netherlands. Aldo van Eyck was an Atheist and had never designed a church. But in 1969 he completed one of the most quietly powerful sacred spaces of the 20th century. @maynardarchitect @kevinhui_archimarathon #archimarathon #architecturelovers #sacredarchitecture #modernarchitecture #architecturaltravel
