Vanessa Damilola Macaulay’s where the compass breaks open moves between South London, South Africa, and the U.S. South, tracing a circulation of warmth, scent, and residue between places often imagined apart. This work explores how the textures of the everyday carry the weight of shared histories and how something passed from hand to hand can hold geography, intimacy, and loss. “South” emerges here not as a fixed direction but as a method of relation, a way of knowing shaped by repetition and exchange. In its quiet gestures, where the compass breaks open invites a re-mapping of kinship across distance. Collaborators: Maya Odim, Nathége Casseus, Morgan Robinson Gay, Austin Miles FRI DEC 12: 7:45 PM Get your INVERSE festival pass - link in bio 🎟️ #south #movement #performanceart #inverse2025 #inverseperformanceartfestival

‘a poem for deep thinkers’ is up at the @guggenheim museum now-january. the opening was a phenomenal evening and is this ongoing celebration. my brother cooked, ate and served :) each floor fed my spirit (as i noticed our ancestors present in pieces), my mind (as i thought about stories), and my body (as i moved through, into and around the show); i left full. i'm still digesting. this exhibit is meals. AND the poet in me can't help but imagine each floor as a stanza :) ❤️‍🔥 mil felicidades @rashidjohnson ; wishing you constant love and kindling to keep the fire burning!

Our co-director and co-star Maya Odim "has a particularly soft and soothing voice that helped bring the room down collectively from the chaos..." - Chicago Theatre Review. So, here's six of her! Hoping to amplify the soft soothing presence as we do down here in the void. See us again Friday! link in bio #infinity #infinityplay #curioustheatrebranch #experimentaltheatre #fringe

This has passed, but the celebration is continual! It was a joy and an honor to read poetry as a keynote for the International Women's Day celebration organized by the Women's Center at Northwestern University. There was a Q&A after the readings, it was wonderful to hear from and talk with people, and I wish I could have given longer answers. One question that was asked was who inspires me; though I answered it I'd like to add a couple more names here: Okwui Okpokwasili @sweatvariant and Christine Sun Kim @chrisunkim are two artists who I'd say keep me in orbit! And my friends, who I am would not be the same without the humans —friends and family— in my life (yes, you) and I say it loud. I am proud. mil gracias/much love
