This is genuinely one of my favorite instrumentals I’ve written. Recording it felt like I was jamming with my younger self, if that makes sense, like a quiet nod to where it all began.
Soaring above is my talented friend Nathaniel Alpin @soulnatemusic on the Ghibli-tinged Expressive E Osmose synthesizer.
Recorded in Eagle Rock spring of ‘24 with producer @ryanpollie , freshly mixed and mastered by @maximadams with Monterey-themed artwork designed by my lovely wife @mystella .

We revisited the cover I designed from his previous release, “Dhara / Jaya” and gave it a bit more of a country influence to accompany this reinterpretation of his sitar pieces that now feature acoustic guitars, pedal steel and tabla.

Frames from a buddy trip @maxtonhunter and I made out to the high desert in spring almost three years ago. Recently unearthed when looking for visuals to accompany the release of Maxton’s new songs.
“Dhara Country” is a rework of an original sitar piece entitled “Dhara” that Maxton put out in 2024. The video we created for it is one of my favorite things we’ve ever made and something I’m still really proud of. Special to see this song re-enter the world with a new contribution from @joeharveywhyte , whose steel playing truly lends it something subtle and sublime.
There’s a visualizer out compiled from super 8 footage we captured on the same trip that never previously saw the light of day. The link is at the end of Old Woman Springs Rd.
🌞 DHARA DRONE 🌞 As the b-side to the new single, I included this 10-minute ambient version that brings all of the original background soundscapes and coastal field recordings of “Dhara / Jaya” to the forefront with more stunning pedal steel from @joeharveywhyte to free your mind.
Visualizer was set in Joshua Tree and San Rafael Mountains and shot entirely on Super 8 by my dear mate @roberto_johnson .

This revisited version now features pedal steel maestro @joeharveywhyte , acclaimed tabla player @tablapusher + new acoustic guitars from yours truly. Their contributions genuinely elevated the song to new heights.
As the b-side, I also created a 10-minute ambient version (appropriately) titled “Dhara Drone” that brings all of the background soundscapes and coastal field recordings to the forefront with even more pedal steel to free your mind.
