I’ve been obsessed with “calibration” exercises, simple core exercises that take little time, help me feel connected to the drums, and enable rhythmical ideas to flow when I want to be creative.
This is basically using a feet ostinato, a lead hand ostinato, and going through all 16th note combinations with the other hand!
Shoutout to @dimitrifantini who has similar exercises on his Youtube channel! I stumbled on it randomly after creating this exercise, I think he calls it Rhythmic Checklist. 💪
His channel is great so I’d recommend people to check it out.

I finally had some time to get back to my drumming kleptomaniac activities 🥷
In this video we witness the speed and musicality of @berjfazlian (please go and check him out) and oh boy, when I started working on this I definitely wondered “wait can I actually play this?” 😂
That used to happen every time when I made those drum’n’bass videos, and I now know that the process of breaking things down, playing slow, hearing the individual arcs within the pattern etc… always end up getting me to the end goal of learning something I’ve never played before!! 💪

I always try to be as relaxed as possible when playing this, especially as it gets busier towards the end.
Once again, I’ve been super excited about practicing calibration exercises routinely. Nothing too crazy, simply drilling all the possible placement of 16th notes, this time on my kick, while trying to minimize flams with the hands. 💪

One lesson I constantly have to remind myself about is to be ok with imperfection, and just be in the moment when I’m playing music. 💪
The practice room is the place for judging, criticizing and questioning, but once on stage, it’s all about letting the music flow and express itself through me! ♾️

Another one of these calibration exercises that I’ve been digging into lately. This one is great to improve your kick hand coordination and also forces you to play these shapes starting with your “weak” hand! 💪
I was inspired to make this exercise after hearing people like @fredboswell1990 play these Kick Hand Hand patterns flawlessly. It’s also a good way to get better at playing the “Bonham Triplets” and all this kind of language. 🔥🔥
