Some music defies description, as words could never compare to their illusive beauty. Satoh’s Bifū is one of those works. First written for violin and piano (for no less than @violincase ), it was particularly natural to transpose it to the cello, its calm melody flowing in and out of the rippling piano part.

I remember in my first lesson in a masterclass with Frans Helmerson some time ago, working on Bach, he strongly recommended that I go listen to the Swingle Singers, and their ‘groovy’ interpretations. Ever since, balancing flexibility and groove in Bach’s music is a key concern of mine. But it’s particularly interesting to note that the 6 Suites are hardly danceable in the usual way us cellists play this music, at least to my ears (and feet) - so it was such a pleasure to perform these Minuets with percussionist @maxcharue these last weeks, giving this music a wonderful momentum, and crossover sound colour.

I sing the cello eclectic. My first connection with the prince of all instruments wasn’t through sonatas or solfège, but through Nirvana, Jimi Hendrix, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. With no teachers or formal guidance, I began by imitating Yo-Yo Ma and Apocalyptica on YouTube. Looking back, this unconventional start shaped my curious and uninhibited approach to music, blending classical repertoire with contemporary, bluegrass, and world music alike.

The composers, @sarahtriquet and @thomasfoguenne , have written an original work for the Contes et musiques de la Téranga, a story by Souleymane MBodj. With Téranga, a Wolof concept from Senegal that brings together the values of welcome, sharing and solidarity, Souleymane Mbodj tells stories that are passed down from generation to generation, like a gift, a sharing.

This magic of music, performed by Ensemble 21, and of the story told by Souleymane Mbodj, is extended into drawings made in real time by Vincent Fortemps and projected on screen. A rare, multimedia, extra-geographical and extra-temporal experience 🐃🍀🦒🌿🦛🌱🦃🕷💦✨
