Over the weekend my Uncle Kevan Staples passed away. He was a really sweet guy, endlessly interesting, wildly funny, and a wonderful family man. He always made me feel less like an outlier in my family because he made it over the wall as a successful Canadian musician. His band, Rough Trade, with his musical partner Carole Pope has gold and platinum selling albums - Seriously, check them out, their biggest hit is a song called āHigh School Confidentialā, itās a queer BOP, and there are so many more incredible songs to explore. Iāll miss his gentle nature and our long talks about drumming. Rest easy, Kevā¤ļø

I am 30 today! Certainly older than I ever thought Iād be, but itās good. Not to be the guy-who-shares-wisdom-on-his-birthday-because-he-may-or-may-not-be-older-than-you-guy, BUTā¦ I just *wish* someone had told me in my 20s that even though things may turn out differently than you had (meticulously) planned, it can be okay! Wonderful even! And not even because of compromise! Just because the universe ebbs and flows and things happen and the good lands in your lap. I lived a lot of life in my 20s - loving and drumming and screwing up and learning and meeting incredible people and losing incredible people and touring and traveling and carrying out dreams and and and.
