PARADISO…, WHAT A BLAST WE HAD!! I can’t thank you all enough for coming out last night, this was so overwhelmingly special. What would we have done without you and your amazing energy!! ❕NEXT WEEK: MAX HELL (@max_hell ): Dirty, rattling guitars from the Amsterdam music scene. Max Hell started playing live in 2021, seemingly out of nowhere. Hell’s music existed for a longer time, as bedroom experiments with his laptop microphone. He formed a band with his old friend Nathan Schipper, later joined by Mirjam Alexander and Joy Burgers. Now they’ve played support shows for Dutch music legends like Personal Trainer and Sophie Straat, gaining a reputation of mixing poppy rock songs with sudden screams from the gut. Everything rattles, squeaks and creaks; but if you prick up your ears, Max Hell’s songs are actually quite pleasant to listen to. At Hell it’s all about those songs: simple, compact pop songs that are performed with a pleasingly gritty edge. Crowned by 3voor12 as an “indie-underdog,” the unsettling honesty of the Amsterdam musician does indeed call to mind the raw work of the Velvet Underground and the plaintive cries of the late Daniel Johnston. SHANTI RAYA (@sean.t.raya ): Shanti Raya is a multi-instrumental singer, songwriter and producer. He draws inspiration from all corners of life, weaving an eclectic tapestry that defies easy categorization. That eclecticism is an essential part of him and is reflected in everything he does. In addition to being a musician, he is a physicist and a professional chef, and every so often he takes up a new art, hobby, or sport. Yet within this diversity lies a clear unmistakable voice. His music pulses with groove, introspection and playful wit. Shanti moves effortlessly between moods, making you sing, dance and stand in place with chills running down your spine. The absence of a fixed framework gives him the perfect canvas to be pure and sincere, and to sing exactly as he feels. Emotions bloom in every hue, and he gives voice to them all. HE:LEEN PLAY is een maandelijkse muzikale samenwerking tussen restaurant LE:EN en De Helling. De toegang tot HE:LEEN Play is gratis. Deze editie met Kookroom en Max Hell! Kookroom combineert Indie-pop met zon en onbegrepen gevoelens. In 2024 bracht hij het album Just add a little cream uit. Kookroom is inmiddels verder aan het bouwen aan een nieuw album waarvan al een handvol singles uitgebracht zijn. Wat ons betreft is de tijd rijp dat een groter publiek kennis maakt met deze zonnige klanken van Kookroom. Alles rammelt, piept en kraakt: maar als je je oren spitst, zijn de liedjes van Max Hell toch eigenlijk best aardig om naar te luisteren. Om die liedjes draait het. Simpele, compacte popliedjes, die met een aangenaam gruizig randje opgevoerd worden. Door 3voor12 gekroond als ‘indie-underdog’, doet de ontregelende eerlijkheid van de Amsterdamse muzikant inderdaad wat denken aan het vuige werk van Velvet Underground en de jammerlijke kreten van de wijlen Daniel Johnston. Op EP Who the Hell Is Max Hell?!’ (maart 2024) maakt het eerdere lo-fi geluid van Max Hell plaats voor wat meer opgeruimde liedjes, maar de eigenheid blijft.
